This is the robe and axe that belonged to Giovanni Bugatti, who served as the official executioner for the Pope from 1796 to 1864. Over the course of his career, he carried out 514 executions.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

In the papal state, you are lucky if you are executed with an axe. Another form of execution sort of unique to the papal state involves the executioner hitting the victim over the head with a wooden mallet and then slitting the victim’s throat with a pen knife.

When you were burned at the stake they'd charge your family for the bag of gunpowder they hung around your neck. Iron Felix Dzerzhinsky learned from them. "Two kopeks for the bullet we used to kill your son."

Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

Apparently, my Dad is immune to the effects (either pharmacological or recreational) of cannabis.

In Eyes Wide Shut, for years, I assumed the mysterious woman who sacrifices herself to save Tom Cruise was just some random woman. I didn’t put too much stock in the theory that it was Mandy (due in no small part to her being played by a separate actress), at least until I saw this interview with Julienne Davis:
Apparently, the woman was supposed to be Mandy all along. Her actress just explained she couldn’t do it (due in no small part to an on-set injury involving her stiletto heels), so Kubrick just had Abigail Good go in her place. And He even had Cate Blanchett dub over her voice.
And, yes, with Kubrick, I do capitalize His pronouns.
