I’ve been trying to figure out the most convenient tuning for guitar for a long time. What I mean by this is: standard interval tunings (EADGBE, DGCFAD, ADGCEA and the like) where the simple “cowboy chord” shapes cover the most possible ground. Of course, from what I can see, it looks like A tuning’s in the lead, but I want a more comprehensive data set. And even after downloading a CSV file 264 MB in size, I’m no closer to this goal than when I first saw that chart. It’s tantalizing as fuck.I think I may have to ask the creators for a more comprehensive table of how often major and minor chords of each key appear in popular music.

And I can remember Boru saying that just knowing three chords in two keys will cover A LOT of ground. Well, it looks like the 1,4, and 5 chords in the keys of D and G (Boru’s Irish, so I guess those are the keys he had in mind) cover almost half of everything.

Yup. If you can play those chords in those keys, getting laid is a doddle (and even easier if you use finger style and play arpeggios).

And be honest - sex is the reason most people pick up a guitar in the first place.
