Hello atheists, agnostics and other nonbelievers,

I'll just give you a short testimony:

Why I believe

A few years back I decided to give Christianity a try, to see if its claims were true. I answered an alter call and gave my life to Jesus Christ, confessing that I am a sinner, and pledging my life to Him.

After I was baptized, I received the Holy Spirit. I would contrast this as the difference between 110v and 220v. When I went into the water I was 110v, and when I came out of it I had been switched to 220v.

After receiving the Holy Spirit, several lifelong addictions were dropped within a few months, without any real effort on my part. I simply had no desire for them anymore. I also felt joy for the first time since I was a child.

This continues on to this day, with many positive changes in my life and inner life. I am at peace.

The internal witness of the Holy Spirit, and the changes that have happened in my life, internally and externally, validate my belief in God, and prove this scripture to be true:

John 16:7

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

Jesus promised when He ascended into Heaven that He would send the Holy Spirit to everyone who believed in Him. This proves that He is in Heaven, at the right hand of power, which proves Jesus is God, which proves the rest of the bible.

Why I didn't believe

I used to be a nonbeliever and thought and said many of the same things I see people saying on this website. I used to think Christianity was utterly ridiculous. I had many intellectual reasons I believed it was untrue, but I can say the real reason I rejected it, at least subconsciously, was that I didn't want to give up what I would need to give up to become a Christian (at least an honest one). I didn't want to be told what to do. The intellectual reasons were merely justifying the underlying rejection of Gods authority over my life.

What I can tell you is that, no matter how certain you are, no matter how bitterly opposed you are to it, your beliefs would change instaneously if you were to receive evidence it was true. What I didn't understand, and what many of you probably don't understand, is that God does provide evidence of His existence. He gave us instructions on how to receive this evidence, and you refuse to follow those instructions, you can't expect to get any results.

So, that is my experience in a nutshell, and my thoughts about unbelief. I look forward to getting to know you better. God bless.

Um, I think I've probably heard it before? Is it that one where you accept a 2000 year old Jewish cult leader as your personal savior for the heinous crime of being a human being otherwise his infinitely loving and forgiving father will send you to a place of torture and torment for eternity when you die no matter what sort of of life you actually lead?

See what I mean?

We see "atheists forums" on this site.

The theists see "Fresh souls for the taking...come on in and preach to us and boss us around a bit...we like it....take a shit in the middle of our floor...we dont care...we are all worthless unsaved heathens who eat babies anyways and DESPERATELY need Jesus and/or Allah."

...or something like that.

We've had at least ten (or more, I lose count of them) Christians since the new years come in and basically post the same thing you just did.

Did the forum say "Come on in..we desperately need to be saved"

Or did it say "Atheist Forums?"

My god...I read your post...Ive never heard of this Jesus fellow before.

Saved you say? Heaven you say? Everlasting life you say?

By God man, I've never heard of such things before [/sarcasm]

Welcome newbie,

Here is partly why I don't believe. I have suffered throughout my life from different afflictions, and at one point it was so bad that I looked for some sort of higher meaning in life, or God if you will. I found nothing, yet low and behold through hard work and dedication I no longer suffer. I rejected the concept of God while simultaneously improving my entire life through my own means. So god either doesn't exist or doesn't care if you believe, but either way, he is rendered irrelevant.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Not quite. Smile It is to admit that you're a sinner, that you've transgressed Gods laws, and to accept Gods offer of forgiveness and eternal life that He offers through His Son, Jesus Christ; to believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead and confess with your mouth that He is Lord. All who do so will be saved.

Yes, God does punish sin. While a human being may be relatively good, say in comparison to a Hitler, in comparison to Gods standard, which is perfection, we are not very good at all. That's me included. God doesn't want to send anyone to hell, but if you reject His forgiveness then you will be judged for your sins, and the penalty for sin is eternal conscious torment in hell.

I used to think that was ridiculous, but until you believe you have no idea how bad sin really is. It is only when you contrast the love of God against the evil of man that you can actually see how wicked the heart of man can be. Nonbelievers see humanity as generally good, but the opposite is true, it is generally sinful. I can understand that you don't see it that way, but that would take admitting your sin to yourself and knowing that you are accountable for all of it. Until you do that you won't understand how bad it actually is, and how much it influences your life and the way you behave, and how desperately you need forgiveness for it.

Are you saying Christians shouldn't come to the forum? If not, why do you have a debate section for religion? Nice to meet you by the way.

All these stories of conversion from atheism to Christianity just seem so incredibly lame and total letdowns. I mean, "I decided to give Christianity a try" and all of a sudden you're bathed in the blood of our Lord & savior Jesus Christ Almighty? I'm sure you were searching for a religion to believe in or else a place to feel welcomed, and now that you get warm fuzzies from your new religion you're not going to ever give it up because you don't want to let go of the warm fuzzies.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.
