Hitler and the Holocaust
#11
RE: Hitler and the Holocaust
I think saying Hitler and religion don't have much in common is false.

You can find countless quotes where Hitler spoke about his faith and doing God's work and whatnot. Hitler used political alliances with various churches to gain popularity and credibility.

Whether Hitler's actions were motivated by Christianity, or whether it was simply a political facade is a subject of great debate.

Saying the two subjects don't have much in common, however, doesn't hold water.

Rather, Hitler shouldn't be used as an "excuse" that it is a negative effect from Atheism/Christianity, like saying how laws against homosexuality is the fault of Christianity.

I totally agree with you about Hitler not being a product of religious ideology, but I can't say it's so cut and dry for your second example.

A lot of anti-homosexuality laws are directly a result of Christian morals. Look at the recent ballot initiatives in California and Maine.

Edit: Ah, I misunderstood.

No, anti-homosexuality laws ARE directly from Christians. That's what I was saying... Maybe I should've added a "not" in there to make it more clear. Tongue
