why are law enforcers such jerks?
i have bipolar disorder bad and a while back i went crazy when my gf left me and wrote on fb that i would kill myself and her. well it got me suspended from college as well as jailed, but i was lucky enough to get out and charges dropped.

But it pissed me off because first they took me to a hospital for 2 weeks but the day i got released the cops took me to jail. while in jail not once did i recieve any of my meds and the detective kept trying to add more and more charges. wtf? i was already in jail, i wasnt going to hurt anyone, i was hurting already and had a outburst on fb, and i was getting punished for it, so why does she keep adding fuel to the fire?

I really hate how the law system is all about punishment rather than prevention or rehab. the detective kept adding charges if it had messed up my record it would have been even harder to find a job and be "a functional member of society".

how is this doing anyone any good? Sad

Why would you assume that any of that was for your benefit? He was padding his stats. Period.

You have to lose this "the policeman is your friend" mentality. It was bullshit when they told it to you as a child.

People that take positions of power tend to enjoy exercising that power, many times excessively.

See, police officers think that since they have that badge and are an official higher rank of society than we are, they think that they can actually push people around most of the time. There are good cops, but then there are the bad cops. Good cops-They actually do their job, they enforce the PEACE OFFICER name correctly. Bad cop-They think a lot of things in this world are wrong (Not going to lie, so do I) like, Minorities like me (Hispanic) or others, they automatically most of the time suspect you are in possession of narcotics. I have a little story also, one day our house got shot at, well the cops came of course, and they found a bag a marijuana in my brothers room. Our mom took the blame for the weed and the cops also found a shotgun, mom took the blame for that as well. We gave the cops as much proof as they needed to arrest the shooters, yet instead they take everyone in the household to jail. Well, later we found out that they over charged my mom for the weed amount, they said we had a quarter of weed. Really my brother only had a little "Blunt", the cops were taken to court later that year and stripped of their badges for planting weed and were fined $3000 each. Just wait dude, everything eventually gets better ^_^

Also, the legal system tends to not deal with mental illness well, either. A friend of mine that was at college was trying to kill himself, and I called the police there since I was so far away. I told them to break in and save him, which they did. When the found my friend unconscious on the floor, he had also left a pot pipe out. In their infinite wisdom, they decided that this was such an egregious offense that he needed to be charged. So, they saved his life, and then they charged him with possession of drug paraphernalia, an horrific and heinous crime if there ever was one. Due to prior convictions of drunken disorderly(my friend was a severe alcoholic by age 17 to cope with his depression, and it got much worse when he left for college), he was put on an electronic tether for three months. Needless to say, that story does not have a happy ending.

It has been my experience that cops have little to no understanding of mental illness, but due to the little psychological training they do get, they think they know everything about the human mind.

Why, indeed?

Quote:When Officer David Bailey grabbed a 10-year-old student by the back of his head and slammed it into the school cafeteria table, it is safe to say that student was not free to leave. On that afternoon, Bailey decided that his routine beat on the streets of Southeast D.C. extended into the hallways of Moten Elementary School.

Although Bailey was not a trained school resource officer contracted from the Metropolitan Police Department nor one of the three contract officers assigned to Moten at the time, his presence raised no red flags. Regular visits from the police in D.C. Public Schools had become ubiquitous.

On the day of the alleged assault, the student, "T.P." had been sent to the cafeteria for the infraction of failing to adequately participate in music class. The result of his childish behavior was a full-on police encounter.

Thankfully, the first lesson given to cops who are training to work with young children is "don't slam their faces into tables."
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

ITT: We justify breaking the law - namely possession of pot and death threats - with being mentally ill/angry/sad/whatever emotion. If you're sad/angry, you're entitled to break the law. The cops are dicks for doing their job (enforcing laws), rather than empathising with you and letting you off with a warning.

All right. I'm going to be the asshole here. What everyone seems to be ignoring here is that you threatened to kill someone on your facebook page and were put in jail. You might be a little biased. Yes, there are bad cops. However, no cop is a mental health professional. They have to deal with kids like you who flip the fuck out (even if it is mental illness, which I understand, you were probably a pain in the ass), murders, suicides, accidents, abuse, etc. frequently. These are people who have to see what you would consider a nightmare on a regular basis. Do you think maybe she took your threat seriously and was trying to stop you from hurting someone? Sure, maybe you are sick. Again, I understand that, but a cop does not have to. They are not there to coddle you. Your doctors should have been doing that. Cops are there to make people safe. Yes, some are corrupt and do a fucked up job, but they are, by and large, the good guys. A few bad seeds and everyone is all "fuck the police" up in here. Do you have any idea how many lives are saved by police officers every day? Let's not shit on the whole institution.

TL;DR You were arrested for a legitimate reason. It is not a police officer's job to make sure you are on meds and getting all of your cuddles.

And . . . I amazingly agree with you. It is not for them to determine if you are mentally ill. Judges can do that. Lawyers and doctors can do that. A cop's job is to enforce the law.

And, another thing, you are not any less of a threat because you are mentally ill. It is not as if the cop should have said, "Oh, well, in that case, go ahead and keep scaring the shit out of your ex."

Please recall your elementary school experience. Remember the 'yes-man' that was too stupid to follow lessons? Remember what that person's job was? That's right, stand in the hall and write down the name of every student that raced to the bathroom to take a piss that didn't have the required documentation.

The difference is now these mental midgets are grown and are given a gun, a taser, and a badge.

You can't make this shit up....

Quote: Judge Dorsey ruled that Mr. Jordan was not denied equal protection because the city of New London applied the same standard to everyone: anyone who scored too high was rejected.

That's right, Mr. Jordan scored too high on an intelligence test to become a cop.
