We're having our basement finished... In the hopes that the Legos will now have their own space... That and to free up another room (where the TV currently lives) so the boys can each have their own rooms, they currently share a room with bunk beds... Doesn't work for us, every night is like a slumber party >.<

I first began collecting around 7 years old. My dad was digging a hole in one of his pastures with a backhoe. I saw this unusual rock in the dirt pile he was making and grabbed it. It turned out to be a crystal clear piece of quartz. Good size too.
The problem was that there is no natural forming quartz in that part of Texas. Every documented piece of quartz located anywhere near where I grew up was dug up by archeologists excavating old Choctaw indian burial mounds.
From then on I was hooked. I've collected rocks from all over the world. And even out of this world.
Unfortunately where I live now is mostly just limestone. Good for finding old sea bed type fossils. But nothing much more interesting than that.
Always good to meet another Rock Hound.
We have a lot of limestone around here too. There are places with great calcite and barite and, of course, lots of fossils too. In fact, I am going on an organized dinosaur dig on the 20th! Can't wait. It will be cool!
We are also lucky enough to have, not too far away, some of the richest gold mines in the country and the mine dumps produce some fantastic specimens. My house is full of rocks.
If you ever need a custom cut gemstone for that special someone, hit me up. I cut everything except diamonds.
