The log looks pretty clean apart from the few browser helpers installed: wormradar and privacymantra ...I guess you installed those??

Privacy Mantra: Yes, I've been using it for years, it's a disc cleaning tool,and pretty good (freeware)..

I have no idea what 'wormradar' might be or where it came from. As do not have access to a search engine at present, I'd be grateful for any information about it and for direct links to any helpful site.

Wormradar is part of AVG's linkscanner.

I went that forum and and began reading. They began with dire warnings about not running combofix without expert guidance,so I didn't.

They also had a complicated tutorial,with a bunch stuff to download.

I struck a snag right from the beginning. They tell you to download the shit to your desktop,and rename it.My downloads go a folder, and I've forgotten how to change the location,and it doesn't give you the option of changing the name,only to save or open the file. If I change the name after the download the name after the download, I can't open the file.

I'm currently running a McAfee Rootkit fixer,but a repair install is beginning to look very attractive.

UPDATE:

After spending ages one that tech forum,ended up very confused.The impression I got was that I could spend a lot of time with no guarantee the problem would be fixed.


I've chosen a more drastic course. I'm writing this on my back up PC. I'm runing an application called dban.It will clean my hardrive cleaner than even a format. I will then reinstall XP

If have any more problems within the next 12 months I'm installing Ubuntu.

When you rebuild, create a new user as a regular user, not power user or admin. If you want to install anything, log in as admin unplugged from the web, or use right click > run as.

dban is on its final pass; should be another 2 hours .I'll try to do do the rebuild tomorrow morning.

You create an administrator account when you build XP as part of the process. Log in with that user then go to user management in control panel and create a new user and choose 'standard user' as user type. Next time you login use that user and not the administrator user.

(you should use decent passwords too - no dictionary words or common names.)

If you use XP as an admin user you're handing admin rights to every website you visit... they are free to do anything to your computer they like. If you're not an admin XP will ask you every time it want's to do anything serious.
