Footprints
One night I had a dream I was walking with My Lord
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there there two sets of footprints
Other times there were only one set footprints

This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.

So I said to the Lord, "You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you, you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of
there have only been one set of footprints in the sand
Why, when I needed you most you have not been there for me?"

Thor replied "where you see but one set of footprints are the times we fought back to back,
Fighting in perfect unison that we might never be overwhelmed."

Do not be devoured by jorgundmir at the end of all things. Join the shield wall at ragnarok and face oblivion as a hero! There is still time to take your place in Odin's hall in Valhalla. Every day without frost giants is a gift from Thor. The mighty news of Thor saves!
Companions the creator seeks, not corpses, not herds and believers. Fellow creators the creator seeks -- those who write new values on new tablets. Companions the creator seeks, and fellow harvesters; for everything about him is ripe for the harvest. - F. Nietzche

I've never liked that poem, even the original version. When was a Christian I took comfort from the idea that when things were shitty I was being moulded, that it was needful for me to suffer in order to grow. I never believed God was carrying me.

Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken."

An oldie but it bears repeating:

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Any comment about foot shapes applies just as equally to the original. As for toe direction it's no sillyier than the original. The footprint of a person carrying another looks nothing like a person walking along the beach

I suspect nobody really likes that poem (the original) -- hardcore fundies may pretend to like it -- but nobody sincerely likes it.

The first time I came across it I thought I was gonna barf.
A mind is a terrible thing to waste -- don't pollute it with bullshit.

Yeah, me too. I remember reading it on a picture that someone had hanging on a wall in their house and thinking, "That's sickening."
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Like many things in regards to the bible, it doesn't hold up well to scrutiny.
