I get down to San Diego or L.A. pretty regularly during holidays and the summer. I'll try to remember to give a heads up next time and suggest times/places.
Also, if you're able to be in the S.F. bay area on Sunday, May 17th you're welcome to stop by. That is the day we traditionally have our garden/studio party for gardening buddies, art friends, colleagues and such like. There'll be brunchy eats and drinks all day. Come for as little or long as you like. My wife isn't a writer but she is a more rabidly, unashamedly non-theist than I am. She'd probably enjoy you guys in person even though she won't write on a forum. PM me for directions. We usually say we'll go from 10 am to 4 pm but invariably wind up going on into the early evening. If there are a few who are able to make it, we could try to pinpoint a time for a meet up.
Rebecca you might want to consider pinning this thread to the top of its sub-forum so that it can be used at any time, even if there are dormant periods.

You know, back when I was on the Newspeak Dictionary Forums, I almost met up with two of the forumers, both young women. One was a German girl who got a gig as an au pair in Chicago, and another was a girl my age who lived in Evanston. We seriously considered a meetup, but we never settled on a meeting time. I think the only condition I made was that I didn't want to go to the Art Institute unless Nighthawks was on display.

My dad lives in the PacNW so if I'm out there to see him you can count on a meetup request. That goes for all the AF members in the area.
