I think I'm a hippy

RE: I think I'm a hippy
I'm so naive and gullible. Confusedhock:

Good video to watch, if you want to know how common the Jesus story really is.

I thought atheists do not recognize having a spirit?

I'm spiritual in the sense that I am in awe of the beauty and mystery of the universe. I love learning about myself and the world around me before I die and cease to exist.

My parents were probably more terrified of me growing up to be a hippy than a gay atheist.

Gawds, I hate to admit it, but I'm 92% hippie. Even my mom, who's from the era, tells me I'm a hippie... and then rolls her eyes. I think she's jealous. There's no way she could have pulled off a revolution under my country-club-republican grandfather's gaze.

it's very trendy right now to be a hippy atheist. It's an extension of the liberalist/humanism that has replaced Christianity for many intelligent people who understand that religion exists to serve a function we no longer need serving and is clinging on to its followers these days through psychological manipulation and not the strength of belief or the power of faith. That spiritual feeling is there to tie up the loose ends, you don't need that either.
"The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions" - Leonardo da Vinci

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

I may be a minor hippie. I don't smoke weed (nothing against it, I just don't care for it), I don't feel the least bit spiritual, and I prefer nature to stay outdoors where it belongs.

On the other hand, I enjoy psychedelic art, and I own a pair of sandals. I think. Somewhere.

I'm more of the Carl Sagan type awe for the universe spiritual, without the weed. I love the outdoors. Probably the wrong musical taste to be a hippie. So I'm not sure.

Me to! Can't believe I've never been, even when it's almost trivial to go from here.
