That training sounds like psychological torture and doesn't really make much sense. Most missionaries are probably going to enter countries where they are allowed to evangelize. Why waste time and energy frightening future missionaries who might not even work in countries that are unfriendly to them? Imagine if the poor missionary ends up living in France or Japan. Chances of their being forced to renounce their faith is pretty slim.

Why kill the sheep anyway? Wouldn't it be better to teach the person how to identify edible plants or catch wild animals? I don't know about you guys but sheep don't normally follow me around so I doubt that one would be available if I am lost in the wilderness and hungry.

In my sister in laws church, some 'kidnappers' broke into the youth class to fake take it over. I can't exactly remember what happened because I tend to ignore most of what she and my nephew tell me. (Yes, that is mean but in my defense, they are really, really annoying.) Anyway, my sister in law was surprisingly not outraged by the kidnapping but thought it was a great idea that her son learn about the persecution of Christians.

Wtf did I just read?

That "training" does not seem to make sense at all as a missionary is not a secret agent who protects state secrets and gets interrogated. The main purpose seems to me to brainwash the participant into following the cult. Also, those poor animals!

So, how'd you become atheist after that ordeal?

Very true. In basic training, we weren't given more than five hours of sleep a night the first week.

Ah, the memories. In basic, I learned it was quite possible to fall asleep standing up. Sleep deprivation sucks. I can't decide what was worse, that or all the time I spent in a dog forsaken frozen hole in the ground.
