Yes, the whole thing sounds like unnecessary cruelty to humans and to animals. But religion doesn't care about who it hurts to get its way.

(I always went for the vegetarian MREs, you always got extras -since nobody else wanted to eat/be seen eating them, and they were at least palatable)

lol, they didn't have those where I was, or when I was in -- leastaways, I never saw 'em.
The chicken a la king wasn't bad, ditto turkey and gravy.
