So I'm not the only one noticing that he constantly moved the goalposts.

Randy, I suggest you keep this on-topic.  You already have a thread for this discussion. Let's talk about your utter disingenuity.

Actually, I have a question for you: we've been discussing why atheists should be good, but what's your motivation?  Obviously, you don't hold any stock in honesty, so... where's the line?

I'll take 'The Pigeon's Gambit a.k.a. The Illusion of Winning' for $500.

BACK UP.

OP, did you mean why be good as in:

"why be docile and compliant"?;

"why follow the 'eternal' do's and don'ts";

or did you mean "why give a shit about anything except your own comfort and pleasure"?

Becca-

Sheesh. Despite your assertions (both of them, btw), I was not trying to change the subject. Yesterday, an opportunity presented itself, and I took advantage of it.

In the course of this thread, Julia or Jenny referred me to some articles (which I have printed out for review) and some other folks have asked about the definitions of words such as "good", "truth" and "objective morality", etc. I could plow ahead, or I could stop to do some reading based upon this feedback. I choose the latter.

However, as I have continued to monitor this thread, it seems that there are divergent opinions among long-time atheist forum members on the question of "Why Be Good?".

So you don't really need me involved at this point to maintain a great discussion, do you?

Nope.  I guess they just never cease to amaze me.

When he's about to leave his comfort zone he never does. Also his last post seems to be indicating a copping out manoeuvre.

On the other hand, maybe he's just compiling the list of countless famous atheists becoming deists or theists after having studied the bible I asked him for. But I won't hold my breath.

Quite a number of their priests have some serious being disgusted potential also.

Not until I finish reading the materials I want to get through.
