I recently finished reading Stephen King's Doctor Sleep. Danny, the young protagonist from The Shining,  finds himself pretty much a raging alcoholic as an adult.....in a misguided effort to mute an ability that causes him to fear for his sanity and his life. He is an orderly at a nursing home and keeps a low profile, only using his gift to help ease the fears of patients as they face death. Danny gets wind of a young girl whose shining abilities are even stronger than his, and of a powerful band of wealthy,ruthless, homicidal psychics  that want to do some sick shit to her in order to take it. Thus, Danny finds himself back in the game. Pretty good read. Even if you haven't read The Shining, Doctor Sleep works as a stand alone novel.

Best books I ever read were Neuromancer by William Gibson and Dune by Frank Herbert.

Read dune many years ago. Amazing book, in fact just today I was trying to remember the name of Paul's father. I was watching battlestar galactica when I was reminded of the scene were Paul's father goes beserk over how the people on the crawler were treated by the harkonnens.

Dune is a classic, excellent science fiction. I read it for the first when I was in high school, then  made the mistake of renting the movie. I was so disappointed. Never got to see the Syfy remake, though.

I think you meant to reply to another post, but I think Paul's father was Leo or Leto.

Maybe. I think it was leo. Yeah now I have to read it agian. Right after my 5th reading of brave new world.

I've never read that. Must be good if you're taking a 5th go at it. I remember watching a movie adaptation of Brave New World with Peter Gallagher a long time ago. I saw Equilibrium a few years later and it reminded me of BNW, somewhat.

The movie was a horror. But I love the book, short and easy read too. I also recommend Fahrenheit 451 and a old Russian book called we. 1984 goes without saying.
