Sounds like an adjustment reaction. Give it time. You'll figure out who the loonies are and how to avoid them.

Welcome mmaaxx!  Most University towns, even those in the Bible-belt closed-minded south, have atheist or free-thinker groups.  I've lived in the Bible Belt my whole life.  You get used the the crazies, and being a hated minority.  (It does make it harder to speak your mind, though.)  Chin up!
