How many kids today would have any clue what this is?

Are there any Gramophones/Phonographs with 45rpm?

There's certainly been older technology displayed, but I still use my Hp 15c daily. Got it in '88; batteries are a bit elusive these days. I also have a 48G, but don't have the need for the graphics anymore.

When Chad said Victrola I thought he meant a mechanical Gramophone using steel needles. Why else would he ask whether it counts

I have an old all tube practice amp from the 60's. All hand-wired, not a single circuit board, celestion speaker, and was the guitar sound I had been looking for years. So lovely and warm. I used it instead of my Marshall JCM900. I've since spoken to the son of the owner of the company and he said that they reckon that Vox nicked their design for the AC-30 because one of Vox's founders used to work with them. Or at least it was inspired by their design.

It was just this old crappy looking amp in the shop window and I originally went in looking for a Fender Champ but wasn't very impressed with the sound. I came away with this amp at a fraction of a price and a Japanese Fender 62 reissue Strat with SRV hot rail pick ups which seemed to work brilliantly with it.

I wish I still had a reason to play the guitar.

Min, I remember on some of these furniture record players, if you selected eg: 45, a round thing comes up so you wouldn't need that little adapter thing.
Is that correct or am I dreaming?

While you may be right that there were some players that automatically raised a 45 RPM adapter from the platter, my experience is that the below photo is much more commonly the case.  That's my Grundig from the '60s.  I don't even know if it has a model number.  It does say 'stereo' on the tuner face which is why I date it to the '60s rather than the '50s.  Generally there was a separate adapter that rode in a clip until needed when it was removed and placed on the center spindle.  For those who haven't seen this tech, there was a catch about 3 inches above the turntable.  You could stack vinyl discs on this step and they would be dropped one by one.  The tone arm moved up/down, in and out in coordination with the dropped discs to play them in turn.  Think the "normal" (play next) play mode on your MP3 player.

So how, exactly, does God know that She's NOT a brain in a vat? Huh

WE had a Grundig, too.  You could fit 10 .45s on that spindle and "Yeah....Yeah....Yeah" for 45 minutes straight!
