Quote:Big Energy CEO rewarded with $3 million bonus after historic California gas leak devastates community

Quote:As reported by columnist Michael Hiltzik, Sempra’s board cut CEO Debra Reed’s pay by $130,000 — while awarding her a bonus of $3.17 million: “It brings her total compensation for 2015 to $16.1 million, meaning that her executive penalty for presiding over an elemental corporate fiasco comes to about eight tenths of 1% of her pay.”

If I did not have a conscience, I might just have no problem killing people like that for what they do.

Here's another fine example?  Say.  You don't suppose this is what that shithead Palin was talking about with her 'death panels' do you?

Quote:Texas healthcare company owner ordered nurses to overdose hospice patients: FBI

Quote:The founder and owner of a hospice care company in Texas directed nurses to induce overdoses in several patients as a means of increasing their profits, KXAS-TV reported on Tuesday.

According to an FBI affadavit, 34-year-old Brad Harris — an accountant with no health-related training — has ordered nurses working for him at Novus Health Care Services to “overdose hospice patients with palliative medications such as morphine to hasten death.”

RE: More corporate scum.....
Things are going out of hand. If you ask me the biggest thing that scares me is the pollution, I mean this is a real killer. Let me just remind you of just one shocking news from last year: Nearly 9,500 people die each year in London because of air pollution – study and yet no politician ever set out a plan to save 9,500 people that die in London because of this!
Is it not worse 9500 people dying then, what, 35 in Brussels and 100 or so in Paris? I'd say pollution is much worse enemy and yet where is the plan? Few hundred people die each year out of terrorist attacks and we see launch of wars where there is no care how much they cost (because UK is also involved in wars in Middle East) and on the other hand millions of people worldwide die out of bad air and other pollution - no plan. No political speeches.
And that is just London who is more cleaner then most of places in China or India.

Or what about this recent news:
About 7 million Americans live in areas of the central and eastern United States that could experience a damaging earthquake in 2016 that was caused by human activity such as fracking. Who cares - as long as they're safe from terrorists.

So what could be done? We already talked about nuclear fusion and sure I heard from plasma physicist Francis F. Chen that fusion could be achieved in 10 years if there was a serious project like Manhattan. And speaking about nuclear energy there was recently a video on youtube by Professor Sir Martyn Poliakoff talking about Thorium and he said if army didn't need atom bomb we wouldn't even have nuclear energy today because it would be to expensive for civilians to invest in something so pricey like Manhattan project. - I mean figure that! Too expensive!
Even when there was that Wendelstein 7-X recently turned on in Max Planck institute the reporters couldn't help themselves but to notice how the whole project costed "towering 1.06 Euros" yes money that could be spent on buying half of B2 bomber - what a waste.

What else could be done? Something more feasible and faster solution could be A traveling-wave reactor (TWR) which is a nuclear fission reactor that uses nuclear waste.
Here's what wikipedia says about it:
"TWRs use only a small amount (~10%) of enriched uranium-235 or other fissile fuel to initiate the nuclear reaction. The remainder of the fuel consists of natural or depleted uranium-238, which can generate power continuously for 40 years or more and remains sealed in the reactor vessel during that time. TWRs require substantially less fuel per kilowatt-hour of electricity than do LWRs, owing to TWRs' higher fuel burnup, energy density and thermal efficiency. A TWR also accomplishes most of its reprocessing within the reactor core. Spent fuel can be recycled after simple "melt refining", without the chemical separation of plutonium that is required by other kinds of breeder reactors. These features greatly reduce fuel and waste volumes while enhancing proliferation resistance.
In principle, TWRs are capable of burning spent fuel from LWRs, which is currently discarded as radioactive waste. Spent LWR fuel is mostly depleted uranium and, in a TWR fast-neutron spectrum, the neutron absorption cross-section of fission products is several orders of magnitude smaller than in a LWR thermal-neutron spectrum. While such an approach could actually bring about an overall reduction in nuclear waste stockpiles, additional technical development is required to realize this capability.
"

So where is it? Apparently, according to wki article, it's left only to China to develop it and they expect to make it in late 2020's. Why only China? Why not jump on that and develop it as soon as possible.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

This shit will not change until we put some more of these CEOs in prison. The stock market crash, car company and bank bailouts, and locally in my state, Duke Energy coal ash river pollution. And Flint Michigan isn't the government's fault outside the GOP constantly cutting funding at the state level causing local officials to cut corners.

The days of "don't tax the rich" and allowing corporate lobbies to hold government hostage have to stop. The corporate blackmail of "If you don't give me what I want, I will take it out on employees" has to stop.

She got caught because it was a direct order. If you are a health insurance company CEO all you have to do is put enough fine print and cubicles between you and the people you want dead faster. Insurance went from pooling your money, to what it is now, the company looking for free money.

Quote:It's Been 25 Years Since Restaurant Workers Got a Raise

Quote:Thanks to the efforts of industry groups like the National Restaurant Association -- or "the other NRA," as I like to call them -- which has stymied efforts to raise wages for restaurant workers, April 1 marked the 25th year the federal tipped minimum wage has been frozen at an abysmal $2.13 per hour.

http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/35480...geous-bail

Quote:Now their property -- a heavily forested hillside of century-old trees -- is in the way of a gas company's profitable enterprise. Without negotiating a settlement, Sunoco Logistics Partners this week clear-cut the land on three acres of the Gerhart property for the Mariner East 2 pipeline.

Courts and state agencies have smoothed the way for Sunoco and ordered local law enforcement to escort the company's crews onto the property. Observers have been arbitrarily arrested and held under punitive bail.

Velcome to Amerika.

Just to throw out a data point, in my state, tipped workers at least 16 years old are paid a minimum of 9.47 per hour. Doesn't seem to have hurt the restaurant industry, or the economy of the state in general.
