My eldest had to reset his console and lost all his dark souls saves. 70 hours worth, I'm sure you could hear the screams from space.

I liked Dishonored for it's overall vibe, but the plot was pretty dumb.

"Let's use the guy who was framed for The Empress' murder (and thus already used as merely a tool by corrupt government officials) to stage a second coup, and then try to kill him ourselves.  The same guy who already was a feared warrior, who escaped our maximum security prison by himself, is now wearing a scary murder suit with various deadly tools and gadgets, and apparently has magic powers since he's teleporting himself all around our base of operations.  What could possibly go wrong?"

Lol, dude, check out Life Is Strange if you're looking for a good story. I guarantee you won't be dissapointed. In fact, you'll love it so much you'll even go on youtube to watch other people play it as well.

I quite enjoyed the gameplay in and of itself, but the setting, characters and shit you actually ended up doing were all so bland I'd have rather watched paint dry.

It's like it was trying too hard to be interesting and edgy but just ended up being boring.

Agreed.

It's the same fucking thing over and over again. Play one, you've played them all.

I wouldn't care but reviewers rave about it and consistently give them 9/10. When any other series does the same thing over and over, it's (justifiably) "oh this is stale!"

Selectiveness. Why...

I find CoD also overrated, although tbf that's just because FPS isn't really my thing.

I absolutely love Naughty Dog's games, Uncharted and The Last of Us. I'm reluctant to call them "overrated", because no other game developers put the level of work and love into games that ND do. Just the production value itself shits on most other games. The gameplay is also pretty sound, TLoU deliberately used slow-paced gameplay to suit the atmosphere, and for me it worked.

With that said, I definitely see the point about story writing and especially cliches. Uncharted 2 and 3 (not so much the first game) are so fucking cliche-ridden that they actually make me cringe at times. I hated how everything about U3 had to be a "close call" moment, where during gameplay Drake would (scripted) stumble or half-fall every time you'd make a move in some sequences, just for "dramatic effect". It made the gameplay feel so irritatingly slow and choppy at moments which were supposed to exciting and adrenaline-pumped. I'd put that down more to story writing than to gameplay though, since it was scripted.

RE: Most overrated game?
I wouldn't even know what an overrated game is supposed to be. The big game magazines usually overrate games when they hand them a near perfect score in the high 80ies or even 90ies. Users and players tend to underrate the same games, since they're not usually as bad as they paint them on metacritic and similar platforms.

Now I'm a very big cynic when it comes to reporting on products and PR hypes in general. I work the job for 26 years by now, the last 20 of them reporting on advertising and PR. So I know what's going on behind the curtains and the inner workings of the PR industry. A full page ad can buy you a lot of slack from any given magazine. And it's even more subtle than that. Downrate our product and you won't get early access next time round. So you're the one out, not being able to report on the next AAA title. You won't get invitations to game conventions and big events like the E3. So, in short, it will cost you, since the readers will look elsewhere for information.

Which brings me to the people buying into the PR hype. Don't, just don't. It's all empty talk, using certain keywords that should make anyone's neckhair stand on edge. And that goes for any product as well as politics. If some bigshot takes center stage to hook you on something, his PR department has briefed him previously. There's not one genuine word coming out of the mouth of any given CEO or developer. Just phrases aimed at hooking you onto something.
