Hi everyone,
I've been lurking around various atheist forums since Christopher Hitchens died a few years back. I've been a long-time regular on another forum (on an unrelated topic) but that forum seems to be now giving up the ghost slowly, unfortunately. This forum seems to be quite active with a lot of interesting people so here I am and I'm happy to be here.
I was raised in a strict Catholic home but was always turned off by hypocrisy I saw in my own family and in people around me. I always thought praying was kind of strange.
One day I was waiting in a bookstore to meet with a Match.com date and stumbled on "Infidel" by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. The date was an epic failure but the book's foreword was written by Christopher Hitchens. "Who the hell is this guy?", I wondered. Fast forward to today and I have a completely new perspective on the world. Yes, you can be good without god.
I have a young child who I've thus far been able to shield from religious indoctrination. I'm trying to teach her to question everything (except bedtime ).
Nice to meet everyone and I'm looking forward to participating on the forum
