The Pet Peeves Thread
RE: The Pet Peeves Thread
To me as a "joke" it's on par with "Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the other side."

"Two people look as though they should get a room together because they're acting all lovey dovey in public. I will tell them to get a room seen as that would be the appropriate thing for them to do."

I almost died laughing but not really because it lacks any humor just like the chicken joke.

It's about as funny as my telling someone "You should get her a ring" whenever someone tells me they are planning on proposing.

Again, died laughing.

I just don't get it and I never have. It's less of a joke and more of a thing people say just because people say it.

"That's what she said" is actually funny in context. I think if instead whenever a female spoke someone said "She said some words out of her mouth." That would be kind of on par with "get a room" in terms of hilariousness.

When a couple goes out in the rain without an umbrella is "buy an umbrella" funny too?

Ultimately "get a room" equates to "take the appropriate action" and I don't see what's funny about that Tongue

"Get a room"

I should have said:

"Get us one."

You'd know it if you heard it. LGBT rights advocates love using it as an argument. They thinking simply saying that being gay is "who they are" means something. Like come on there are much better arguments than that.
"Adulthood is like looking both ways before you cross the road, and then getting hit by an airplane"  - sarcasm_only

"Ironically like the nativist far-Right, which despises multiculturalism, but benefits from its ideas of difference to scapegoat the other and to promote its own white identity politics; these postmodernists, leftists, feminists and liberals also use multiculturalism, to side with the oppressor, by demanding respect and tolerance for oppression characterised as 'difference', no matter how intolerable."

I think the best argument is elucidating how and why anyone who doesn't support LGBT rights is a fucking bigot. I always feel like ultimately arguing for why equal rights is a good thing is like explaining why good health is a good thing. It is much easier to just raise consciousness and expose the bigots because anyone who can't grasp why equal rights is a good thing is a fucking bigot themselves and beyond help.

Yeah all about exposing bigots and raising the consciousness and awareness of those who just go along with the herd I think. That's the way to go. If I had to explain why homophobia (female homosexuality included) biphobia, panphobia or transphobia is wrong I would be at a loss for words. If someone is incapable of grasping the concept of why any form of bigotry is wrong then I consider them beyond help. We're all people, we're all human and no one should be demonized and if someone doesn't agree they can fuck off.

I'd like to take JT's Face Off but that's already been done.

I've got a two-foot circle around that I don't like infringed. If I step backwards, that's your clue that you're too close. Please don't follow me, and if you do please don't be offended at my request for personal space.

I don't like people touching me without my permission, either.

That's a pretty big personal space.  For me it depends on the situation.  There's a situation in work where people have to come to me at the end of their shift so I can check what items they have on them. One guy steps a few inches from my face when he approaches me and I just stand still.

I used to step back but now I just think, ok fuck you, let's play the weird game of being inches away from each others face while I check what you have.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.
