Fuck the Muslim world. Fuck Muslims. Fuck Islam.

I'm concerned with people, not with a fucking religion and its followers's problems.

Gotta read more than the first line of a post, bruh.  You missed the good stuff.

No, this is just turning the tables of bigotry. Religions don't have to die. Only the tinfoily radicals have to die out. Not die in the literal sense of the word.

If religion wasn't around, people would simply flock to a different label to align behind and live out their vile instincts and bigotry. Actually that's what I don't understand with all too many people. That they consider the dying out of religion to be the remedy for what's wrong with this world. Religion is just another ideology when taken to the extreme. It's absence would instantly lead to new ideologies emerging. Human nature doesn't change.

I read your whole post. You either made the mistake of referring to some population or other by their religion or you were genuinely talking about the plight of people insofar as they are religious. Well guess what, if they have it bad because of a religion maybe they should leave the damn religion. Seems simple enough.

Have to agree with abaris on this one.

Bold mine!

Can you back that up with some evidence or any reasoning at all?

Human nature does change, abaris, your own apparent cynicism about it notwithstanding. The proof for that is the positive change in quality of life we've experienced in the last few centuries and the last couple of decades in particular.

Eradicating religion is a very worthy goal. I don't think anyone is saying religion is the only problem the world has, so maybe take it down a notch with the straw figures. It is definitely one of them, though, it's tangible and it's real. It is definitely troublesome and we would be far better off without it. If you dispute that I'd be glad to hear why.

Depends on how old you are, what you observed and how interested you are in human history. Otherwise it should be obvious. From sheer observation.

Hmmmm. . . you make a good point.  I think communism, Naziism, etc. are functionally not much different than religions.

Hopefully selective breeding will weed out the nutjobs.  But the problem is that nutjobs also love breeding.  Looks like we are screwed. Tongue

But nah! I think any instutitionalized craziness should be discouraged and stamped out. Not by force, mind you, but by an unending stream of mockery. We just don't need fairy tales as central parts of other people's world views.

Which kind of falls smack in the middle of Nazism/Fascism. Careful what you wish for.

That's a non-answer. It's like me saying, abaris, I'm far smarter than you, clearly, so just drop it.

So, to recap, you have no evidence and no reasoning for that ridiculous statement about human nature, unlike me. I think it's pretty clear, then, who wins this argument by default.

It's not really religion, taken flatly, if we really wanted to get specific.  We say "religion" forgetting that we're really only talking about a small handful of religions...and how they've metastasized into something altogether nasty.

When good people can politely claim that you will burn in a fire, it probably can't get any worse than it is.  I don;t worry, too much, about the nuts.  The nuts are few and far between.  The world is -full- of "good people", though.  It's not the singular act of devout terrorism that really degrades us and everything around us. It's the daily grinding, the inevitability and inanity of a mundane faith, as currently expressed.  That's always on, bringing us down the tiniest notch at any single moment, any particular believer...but the aggregate effect of the mass of faith is nothing if not an aggressive tumor with a smiling face. It's as sweet as applie pie, as unassuming as your granny, and it will absolutely shit on anything and everything that's even remotely decent about us.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
