AEBC #2 has a cousin
January 4, 2017 at 11:20 pm
Okay so Vorls isn't the only one with a kitty who has ear issues. Vader got a hematoma in his left ear yesterday afternoon. The vet saw him, drained it, used laser therapy to promote healing, sent us home with ointment for his eye, ointment for his ears, steroids in pill form and antibiotics in pill form.
In addition to the hematoma, he has a bilateral ear infection caused by a bacteria and a virus. He has his yearly eye infection causing conjunctivitis. He turns 11 years old this month and has started in with arthritis.
He got sent home wearing The Cone Of Shame, he's not happy with me, but he is eating and drinking, so I'll take the attitude for now. He gets his pills in the morning along with the ear and eye ointment and then gets just the ointment in the evening.
He's tolerating everything well, for the most part.

The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

He managed to get under the sink by opening the cabinet door. This is the technician cleaning out his ears
He is not amused.

Glad you got him to the vet and he is getting well.
I do have a concern with the vet. Can you tell me more about the "laser therapy" and how they said it promotes healing?

It's supposedly therapeutic. It was included with his procedure, but I already have to take him back tomorrow for another attempt at draining the hematoma. If it doesn't work, we're looking at surgery.
The laser treatments are designed to create heat and encourage healing within the skin cells. It's not a guarantee, but a lot of patients claim it has some benefits

Don't become the victim of anecdotes, testimony and quackery when it comes to laser therapy. It won't help but also can't hurt, except for your pocket book.

Well, it was free so in this instance it didn't hurt my wallet. Now it would be great if everything else was free, but such is life with pets.

We had a dog that broke her knee tendon (X2 but thank heaven not at the same time). The specialist replaced the tendon(s) with nylon "tendons". Each time it cost about US$2800.00. You think you are going to be killed
