America Divided: Second Civil War Coming?

Let me put it this way then. What if Trump and the Republican government ignores the constituency and goes ahead with passing and enacting laws that are grossly unconstitutional: establishing a religion, curtailing the press and media, restricting freedoms and making gross invasions of privacy? Should we just let those things slide? Are we all like the proverbial frog? We are being cooked slowly but sure enough being cooked?

The opposition has been surrendering out of fear of any whiff of gunpowder for so long that trump supporters at the moment have most of the gun powder.

In light of how divided American politics are right now, it seems to me that there is no longer any room for compromise or in the least opposing sides listening to one another any more.  Everyone seems to be entrenched in their own views or living in bubbles.  My question is this: are we all on the road to another civil war?  If this is your recognition of what is going on in America then what do you feel should be done to prepare for it?  Or do you think these rising tensions will blow over and there is nothing ever to be worried about or to prepare for?

I'm a historian by profession. I've seen this all over and over again. Roosevelt's third term guaranteed that fascism would be the law of the land by 1940. Etc. While it's hard to find a worse president than the one we have now I don't think the system is as nearly broken as the internet doom-sayers would have you believe.

I think Rome around 60 BC is the appropriate analogy to our situation.  Will we sit on our pompous asses and watch the triumvirate remake the government into a money making scam for the rich or will we vote them out while we still have a chance.

The difference is Rome in 60 BC was an ascending power by virtue of everyone else of any consequence were declining even faster.   US of 2017 is a descending power by virtue of most other nation of consequence are rising faster, and we are about to terminate the only remaining advantage our ignorant, yokelish country has, which is it attracts people who are, like, educated because these are immigrants and might make our country competitive out from under our fat lazy entitled but uneducated and underskilled rural and exoburb white male voters.

I personally think the press and internet portrays a more divided and grim picture than actually exists. Most of us are more concerned with our daily activities and whether Alabama is going to win another championship next season.

That said, my estimation is that if it comes to an armed conflict, it will be extremely lop sided.

I'd assume the 'opening shot' of a hypothetical Civil War II would be most/all of the sanctuary cities burning themselves to the ground. I'm not sure how that would advance their cause, but I am sure, that would nevertheless be the start of it.

More likely the national guard being sent into sanctuary cities to burn them to the ground.

But most likely the chest thumping flag wrapped Republican Party that spits on the concept of veteran welfare  eventually makes immigrate heavy population of grunts and ex-grunts wonder whose side they ought to be on, and as a result the army fragments and puts military muscle behind each of the two irreconcilable political fractions.

It took about 50 years for the monolithic roman army totally loyal to the state to devolve into a partisan force that would fight on behalf of different sides in a civil war. I think it would be about the same in the US.

Remember that T.rump doesn't belong to the GOP, and they are concerned with the next election and the one after that. Enough stupid from the Orange One and they'll be voted out. So they will keep him under control. He isn't going to get  a rubber stamp Congress with rubber duck legislation.
