Yes meditation is a technique and? Buddhism is a religion still. They have temples and holy people and monks and prayers and different sects that do not agree as to how to follow the writings.  Buddhism is a spin off of Hinduism fyi. It's hero is also rooted in superstiton, magic and mythology. The earliest depictions  of the first Buddha have him born from Royalty in Queen Maya, who is told by the divine world that she would give birth to a gift to the world. He also avoids the birth canal and is born out of her side. Buddhism is a religion, period.

Asia also has Jainism and Taoism and? Those are religions too. Sam's fetish about Buddhism is no different to me than if Ben Carson claimed Jesus was real because he is a neurologist. The "self control" that the west gets so hung up on is stupid to focus on. Navy Seals also get trained to endure too and I doubt very many of them are Buddhists.

I get this same argument dodging the word "religion" from every religion. I've seen Jews do it and even Christians do it. Buddhism is a religion.

The Hindus have temples for rats, yeah, RATS, 1000s of them.  Why?  Because Ganeshi, the Elephant God has pet RATS, and you dont want to piss off Ganseshi, nossir, then you will have to walk everywhere and carry everything on your own back.

I'm not a fan of any religion, except for studying the various texts for cultural, historical insight.  They can ban all the idle and oppressive clergy and "holy men" from the planet, and I hope they do it sooner than later.

Meditation is a technique only, to allegedly discover "within oneself" this thing called "Nirvana" which has 1000s of years of oral, empircal verification behind it and it is said to be a REALLY good, profound experience.  You can DO meditation w/o Buddhism or any religion, it is a technique. That is the extent of my and Sam Harris' or anybody who is serious about it, interest.  And Sam is also interested in possible neuroscientific explanations thereof.

Means nothing to me.  One is either a communist or a capitalist, and those are the only 2 options.  You are either dog eat dog or dog help dog. I don't use the term "socialist" much anymore, though if one knows the actual Marxian meaning, I'm ok with it.  It's easier for me to just say "communist", it's more clear and committal and people know where you stand.  It's like atheist v agnostic.  I am an atheist communist.

So, I am avowed to NOT chit chat on las materias politicas with avowed capitalists, since I'd rather poke my eyes out with ice picks than to do so.  However, since I live in the belly of the capitalist beast, I would consider doing so for $$$!  And lot$ of $$$.  I wrote a couple of fab books worth on the subject on the last atheist/capitalist site I recently got banned from(foreVAR, I might add)--I mean I've never had so much systematic and vehement attack aimed at me, the only commie, in my life, from allegedly "thoughtful", "open minded", "nice" people.  You DO NOT go after their poopy capitalism, nossir, but I am committed to truth(s), justice, and fairness and I will BRING IT, when I choose to.  I'm too old not to, at this point, gotta have a legacy, for the next generations and be on the right side of the fence, history.  I am already feeling the pending attacks @ me here for just saying that little bit.
