America's obsession with guns
RE: America's obsession with guns
You'll never win an argument with a gun nut--because there's one clear word in there. "Nut". You can't argue with someone who's crazy.
The whole tone of Church teaching in regard to woman is, to the last degree, contemptuous and degrading. - Elizabeth Cady Stanton

I am not going to argue all gun owners are crazy. I will argue that our nation is held hostage by one industry and one lobby.

I see how far too much of society, not just on the issue of guns, but anything, is marketed as entitlement and a delusional mindset that nothing will go wrong. It is the same entitlement I see when the fossil fuel industry pays lobbyists to politically argue that climate change is a hoax. Same vile marketing big tobacco used trying to hide the dangers of their products.

False equivalence game is played by the NRA to confuse the issue. The primary purpose of cars is not violence. Nor, except in vanishingly small numbers, do five year olds kill their three year old sister with a car in the living room of their home.

That's why I say "ardent gunner". With the obvious exception of my cousins most ardent gunners aren't crazy, they've just been sold a bill of goods by the folks who stand to profit from all this.

Thank you.

This is about the volume of injuries and deaths from both legal and illegally obtained guns. And the data has always shown that one is far more likely to injure themselves or someone in the home, and far less likely to successfully defend themselves from a complete stranger.

Never will anyone ever read me demand or hear me demand all guns be banned.  But no, nobody needs big clips and nobody needs spray riffles. Nobody needs to be carrying a gun in public unless they have a job requiring it. I am for guns when are using them for hunting or home protection WITH vetting and training. Regulations are not bans. Just like mandated seat belts and speed limits are not anti car.

We make way too many and what vetting process we have is not universal and our laws are currently Swiss Cheese.

The way the far right screams, reminds me of trying to get my mom to do things safely. My mom would often snap at me and say "Why won't you let me do what I want", and I often would have to respond, "I am not saying you cant or should not, but you should do it safely regardless".I love my mom, but when there is a problem there is nothing wrong with pointing out that problem.

With the far right, and THE NRA, I have no patience. They have over the past 30 years needlessly scared the crap out of just enough of a MINORITY gun owners so much so, that MINORITY holds our entire nation hostage. And the NRA has wrongfully and viciously slurred liberals on the subject of guns. The NRA's demagoguery is nothing more than a scare tactic to protect the profits of the gun factories.

You think massively increasing both the murder and accidental death rates is justified by black swan events which have been blown out of all proportion?

I think if one is going to own a firearm, they cant have any sort of utopia delusion that every use will have the same happy ending. If I see someone without a badge or a uniform with a weapon, my instinct is going to put distance between me and them. How the fuck am I supposed to tell if I don't know them, who they are and what their intent is?
Forgive me if I missed something, but weren't you the one that would shot me in the head if I stabbed you? I admit to being very sleepy right now, so apologies if that was someone else.

No that was Kusa. He thinks that he can pull a gun out of its concealed holster, pull the safety, cock it, train it on your head in a faster period than you can shank him to death from a couple of inches, after you've mortally wounded him through gutting him.

Brian thinks Kusa's talking shit, which he is.

You didn't answer my question.

It's actually in my front pocket. Since it's a double action only, I don't have to remove a safety and cock it. It just takes a split second to pull it out and pop a couple of rounds in someone's face. At close range its point and shoot, no aiming.

Everybody's ignoring the "I walk up BEHIND YOU" part. Because that renders their argument null and void.

What's your point? Anybody can be ambushed. I could walk up behind you and stick my thumb up your ass.

Well, unlike you, I wear pants in public.

However, said public sexual assault will not gain you a gun to use in your nefarious rape scenarios.

BINGO, ANYBODY CAN BE AMBUSHED

Knife or gun, if someone wants to ambush you you are far less likely to be able to reach your holstered firearm. If someone has knife to your back you are going to get hurt to some degree regardless if you have a gun. If they have a gun to your back you better either have a bullet proof vest on or you better be superman, because the person who AMBUSHED YOU is at the advantage, and if you flinch one bit, it is highly likely they will pull their trigger before you pull yours.

Yes you could stick your thumb in my ass, but unless I can see that it is just your thumb if you say you have a gun to my back, if I don't know you, I am going to assume you do. Because if I assume it is just your thumb and and it turns out you have gun, I'm dead.

See KUSA you are playing hero in your head, and that kind of delusional nonsense will get you needlessly hurt. TRAINING matters more than the weapon you face. Fight is tough talk. Training, the type of training cops and military take and use on a daily bases requires far more than mere good intent.
