Thank you, though.
Oh you're smart. Let's just say "No wonder you and Thump are great together."
Now I just gotta find myself a girl who's my level of intelligence. So as thick as pigshit basically
Make no mistake, the Thena is much smarter than I am ... until it comes to Googling Caribbean vacation spots. Yes, dear, there is a St Martin, MO.

A 30 year old neckbeard loser with no job, no skills, poor as dirt and you're calling a young girl that landed a job in a software MNC when you were learning how babies were made an 'average intelligent' person. She started making money and have made more money than you'll ever make in your whole lifetime while you were probably in a basement somewhere wanking off to some weird porn you loser. I have more respect for shit stained diapers than you. Don't get caught in a fire love.

Lol, so I was checking out the new posts list, and I saw this one come up near the top for like, the fourth day in a row. I thought to myself, 'Hmm. Weird. Seems like a pretty innocuous topic. I wonder what all the traffic is for?"
Then I saw that Pool was the most recent member to comment, and it all made sense, lol. People are fighting. Because...for whatever reason, every single thread Pool jumps into ends in arguing. Every time. It's almost as if EP is reaching out to us from beyond the ban hammer.
Just making an observation.

To be fair, Pool's a latecomer whose "insights" haven't been driving the conversation.
That will probably change as he starts banging away at a woman's proper role etc etc.

I know it's personal preference and I'm not gunna say anything against feeling offended but I just don't get the feeling at all. I love being told I'm pretty and honestly I like being honked at.
I don't see the problem with starting a relationship off on looks because how are you supposed to just -know- good qualities about someone you just met? Gotta start somewhere I say. If things don't develop deeper then there is a problem. My husband I started off just messing around and now he is my best friend. We started messing around because omg he was hot. lol He had little to do other than P90X and ran a few miles a day... I wasn't passing that up...
Yeah I've never heard of a girl get offended or feel objectified by receiving a genuine/polite "you're pretty" or "you have a nice smile", etc. I've heard girls say it may be a lame or cliche pick up line, but never offended.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

I once knew a girl who was always lovely to me. I told her I liked her. I said "I do like you, you know." or something like that.
She suddenly avoided talking to me as much as possible.
So yeah, I was socially awkward and I let her know I liked her by literally saying "I like you". But bloody hell that was a bit of an overreaction. We were talking all the time about stuff and suddenly talking to me is awful because I said I liked her?

I think being offended by a compliment is a little much. When people are just being nice, and maybe being awkward in the process because it makes them nervous, I see it as a nice gesture and appreciate their effort and sometimes their courage (probably took guts). I get what Thena and Thump are saying, though. Some people may feel a certain way. Like this: a dude might tell me he thinks I'm pretty. My answer will maybe be something like an awwww thanks. Lol But if a person paid attention to my response in class or at work or whatever, and complimented my insight, asking another question perhaps so they can jump in... I might be more intrigued or interested than just "awww". So while a compliment about looks can be appreciated as sweet and maybe even ballsy, interest in me as a person with a brain can be more effective.

Yeah.
And that's just the thing, I wasn't even saying "I like you" and talking about her physical looks.... I meant I liked her as a whole. She was a fun friend, fun to talk to, and beautiful. The whole picture. I get it though, I was young and didn't know how awkward just saying "I like you" was.... but for that to be the end of our whole friendship and for her to avoid me from then on when she was so lovely and we were enjoying chatting about stuff.... I think that's really sad.

I never gave my now wife a compliment as a pickup line, poor woman. First thing I said to her was "wanna go get some coffee?". Sounds like a bad cliché, but we were both studying for physics finals and I was actually headed to the cafeteria next door. So sometimes coffee is really just coffee. I'm just saying that compliments are not the only thing to break the ice. It's not obvious that flattery is the way to go at all to find someone you like and vice versa.
