Aspergers, me?

Of course, since OCD has been mentioned, I should bring up that I have been disagnosed with OCD, although, in my case, it seems my compulsions and obsessions are largely (I don't notice them intersecting at all, and I am a bit more attuned to the realities of mental disorders than the average bear) separate.

I'm probably somewhere on the autism spectrum; wouldn't surprise me given how unhealthy my mother was and her advanced age when she gave birth to me (40). I'd join the proud ranks of guys like one of my favorite comedians Jim Jefferies and my favorite cartoon spy, Sterling Archer.

Mine was 27. Then again, one of her brothers, in hindsight, might have been on the spectrum, particularly given his barely existent social life (apart from his hockey team, he didn't so much have friends as he knew some guys who knew some subjects) and the fact that he was so obsessed with and knowledgeable about space travel that he managed to do some consulting with the Museum of Science and Industry.

I just did another test for ADHD and got 40 which is apparently moderate to severe.
Is Aspergers and ADHD on opposite ends of the spectrum I wonder?

Only got a 19, I expected to be a little closer to the middle but I'm in the below-below average score range for it. I think if my memory capacity was better (for phone numbers and birthdays) I'd have scored higher but I'm not that great at remembering details of that sort, more situational details than small abstract things like that.

Someone, I cannot recall who, informed me during a thread discussion on another forum that I should have myself checked out for Aspergers.

I still plan on doing that, but first I thought I would check out an online test.

I scored in the highest percentile for Aspergers. Therefore, it is something I am going to attempt to get checked out, and I figure why I was not diagnosed when I was younger is due to the fact that my family simply thought I was shy and it was something I would eventually outgrow.

I always score high on online ASD tests too. I've scored higher than one of my friends who has an Aspergers diagnosis.

I also... am having an actual ASD assessment in November.

If you seriously think you may be an Aspie, or have some form of high functioning autism.... then it is a good idea to get tested if you really do struggle a lot with many things but don't really have any sort of explanation for it.

But believe you me... in my experience, at least here in the UK, it's a gigantically long waiting list. Been waiting over a year already. But considering I've struggled with mental health difficulties for over 11 years now... but supposedly those mental health difficulties aren't necessarily caused by a mental health condition, and may be caused by something else (like ASD) it's certainly well worth getting tested for me. As I always feel like this guy who is considered both neither ill nor well and both disabled and not disabled and it's incredibly frustrating. If it turns out I don't have Aspergers or some sort of ASD... at least it will be a result. I can then get the therapy I was told would be ineffective if I have Aspergers.

I had a general Neurological assessment 10 years ago and the neuropsychologist who tested me thought I had Aspergers. But at the time I had a Bipolar Affective Disorder (type 1) -- formerly known as manic depression -- diagnosis and I was told to focus on that as that's a serious lifetime long mental health condition. But after 4 years of medication and therapy for Bipolar.. EDIT: 4 years of lithium. 7 years of medication and therapy.. I was told I didn't have it, I was told the medication wasn't working and I was taken off all medication and my mental health only got better and better as the mood stabilizers only seemed to weigh me down and cause nasty side effects. But I'm still left with the same struggling with life and mood-swingy personaltiy as always. I get very obsessive too. If I'ts ASD and I get a diagnosis of ASD and I get treatment for ASD that could be freaking life changing. So I am extremely looking forward to my assessment in November.

As for an explanation for why I wasn't diagnosed when I was younger... I literally went to school from age 5 to 6 years old and I couldn't cope so my parents took me out and educated me at home until age 18. So I went to school for a year and it was only primary school. At age 18 I also had a breakdown and I've never been able to function well enough to have a paid job. In fact I even had one breakdown over the stresses of voluntary work despite the fact that I can come and go whenever I want and I don't have the pressures or stresses of a boss.

Anyway, I hope things work out for you.

By the way... the link for the test you posted in the OP isn't working for me. It says page cannot be displayed. And I've tried refreshing and going to the home page for it and everything but it doesn't work for me.

Psychologist Simon Baron-Cohen and his colleagues at Cambridge’s Autism Research Centre have created the Autism-Spectrum Quotient, or AQ, as a measure of the extent of autistic traits in adults. In the first major trial using the test, the average score in the control group was 16.4. Eighty percent of those diagnosed with autism or a related disorder scored 32 or higher. The test is not a means for making a diagnosis, however, and many who score above 32 and even meet the diagnostic criteria for mild autism or Asperger’s report no difficulty functioning in their everyday lives.

Numbers are easy for me to remember.

I'm good with numbers but suck with phone numbers. I got 43. One above the answer to the universe and everything godamnit!

EDIT: Well basically I'm NOT good with numbers. I suck with numbers. But I get obsessed with certain ones and two digit numbers aren't difficult to remember when you get obsessed with them.
