Oh god, nobody cares about that but people who debate a lot on the internet. College philosophy class isn't about logical fallacies at all.

And logic class as someone else mentioned near the beginning of the thread, early on.

What people really need, is to learn the actual A U B style logic. Not the half-ass fallacy bullshit people on here spout mindlessly.

No phones for the kids
uniforms
no expensive shoes
no back packs
school staff empowered and trained to report evidence of parental neglect (or worse)
sorry Deanna, but you can't sit in the back seat of the bus and let the Jr High Boys feel you up anymore . . .
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Wtf? And how in the world is that going to prepare a child for a life of unrestrained and infinite choices that is the reality of being an adult. Our children need more freedom in school, not less.

Read a couple installments of the Rosemond column.
Easy peasy. Especially regarding the phones.

I read the latest two on his site. Let's just say I found it extremely unconvincing. Is there a particular one or something you can cite that you find particularly convincing? Or that rebutts my point that a restrictive environment poorly prepares a child for the unrestricted freedom of adulthood?
I mean, he provides no clear definition of what a successful child is, or successful parenting, or becoming a successful adult is. I don't think doubling down on an already extremely restrictive school system would help at all. Just more bewildered 18 year olds not knowing what to do with their life so following other people ideas.

Most of these already exist in some form or fashion in public schools. Schools can't control whether parents give kids cell phones but phones are not allowed to be used in schools during the school day (except for actual school work).
Uniforms - yes! Sadly, my kid's school doesn't have a uniform code. I want my kid thinking about geometry and science, not whether she fits in with the latest fashions.
School staff are typically mandated reporters and are legally required to report abuse/neglect.
Students need and often want structure and guidance, especially in middle and high school.

Ban religiously based homeschooling.
Capital punishment in schools.

Capital punishment in schools to be carried out exclusively by spanking. I envision a large powerful machine pummeling miscreants bottoms with semi truck mud flaps until they are fucking dead.
Only have to do a few a year and we'd see virtually 100% across the board improvement in deportment. Probably worth doing except for some bad optics.
