Defensive anyone? Kavanaugh sounds scared!

As I've discussed in the other thread, Democratic candidate to the Minneota attorney general race faces a similar situation to Kavanaugh, in that last minute allegations threaten to derail their elevation to office or the court.  Ellison has called for an investigation into the allegations against him.  Kavanaugh refuses to call for an investigation.  There is no comparison between the way Democrats and Republicans respond to allegations.  The Democrats call for a process to get to the bottom of the allegations, the Republicans do everything they can to sweep the allegations under the rug.

There is no comparison.

The Democrats may have or may not have manipulated the process.  The Republicans are transparently manipulating the process.  There is no comparison between a suspicion that the process might have been manipulated, and the blunt and obvious manipulation by the Republicans.

There is no comparison.

Kavanaugh is being rushed in, and that's clearly political maneuvering on part of the Republicans. If the Democrats have done maneuvering, its in response to this rushed process.

Another (major) difference is that Ellison is running for a term as attorney general... not a lifetime appointment to the SCOTUS.

What's stupid (beyond, you know, everything) is that if the GOP really thought that the rape allegations were a Democratic ploy, they'd punt on Kavanaugh, select another of the many middle aged, white, male judges who grew up privileged that have similar views on abortion, religion, etc., and dare the Democrats to produce yet another alleged rape victim, or anything else so drastic to derail that confirmation. It would add credence to their conspiracy theory, strengthen their chances in the midterms, and give them their majority vote in the SCOTUS.

Instead, they're clinging to Kavanaugh like he's the only possible candidate they can choose, which is just baffling.

Of course, it won't matter. Modern GOP supporters appreciate bluster and 'powerful displays' like Kavanaugh's tantrum over intelligence and character. Rubes, one and all.

Anyone else watching the Kavanaugh hearing? He's on the attack in that hearing. I don't know if he's yelling or preaching, or what, but he doesn't sound like he respects this process one bit.

Blasey Ford sounded credible, authentic, and unrehearsed.

Too bad his buddies nixed the independent prosecutor after one round of questioning and came to his rescue.

They probably also think that it won't matter. They have complete control of the government until the midterms, their base is vile and eats this shit up, and even though there's some hope that the House will flip blue, it's incredibly unlikely that the Senate will. So, the only potential danger is this playing worse than expected in deep red states.

1. ‘You don’t have a shred of corroborating evidence,’ and

2. ‘We definitely don’t want the FBI to look for any corroborating evidence.’

I saw a bit of this while eating lunch. Couldn't watch too much, as I was trying to enjoy my lunch. My wife pointed out that Kavanaugh's wife looked pretty pissed. My wife thinks that it means he really did it, but I'm going to just take that under advisement, until we actually know. Also, it would be great if people didn't threaten to "kill and/or blow people up" when they don't like their politics, or if they're getting pinned for past escapades. If he's guilty, let the process work.

Just a reminder: this isn't a trial. There's not going to be a declaration of guilt/innocence from the committee. This is just part of the confirmation process. It's a glorified job interview.
