^^Exactly this. In fact, the original purpose of tanks in WWI was to break through barbed wire emplacements, opening a path for infantry.

Yep, and some countries were ready to fight WWI again in 1939. "Infantry" tanks, meant to be mobile strongpoints, were to plod along with the ground pounders.

All I know being the wimp I am, if I hear one weapon make a big bang near me, I am going to run for cover.

Don’t knock infantry tanks. The Churchill infantry tank was better protected than the Tiger I and the Panther, and provided good service through the Korean War.

An aside, the sitcom MASH had me believing the Korean war went on for a decade. It wasn't until a couple years ago I looked it up and found out how short it was in reality for the time America was involved. The other thing is, I they had a motion graphic of the entire war,, the push back and forth, the graphic was only about a minute and half, from start date to the agreed DMZ. The allies almost got to China, then almost got pushed south to the sea, then at the end the country was split.

But first we were pushed almost to Japan. I pointed out elsewhere* that the fact that Pusan never fell was proof that the NORKs would have never won the war. Pusan held out until the US got our shit together and then we rolled them up. China reacted as expected, but earlier than expected.
