Forget hate speech, if I went into a pub full of football supporters from an opposite team and screamed their team was shit I bet I would get a good kicking  .....

If I said to my mates I was a victim they would laugh at me and say I was a stupid fucking idiot.

Didn't say that violence was the appropriate response. I'm telling you that Just Some Bully was a victimizer as well as a victim in this scenario.
A woman's not victimizing anyone by simply putting on a skirt before she goes out. It is NOT a hostile action.

If you think that disturbing the peace and and unleashing a tirade of verbal abuse is "no big deal" when engaging with total strangers, then I strongly disagree with you. If a drunk motherfucking stranger gets in my face and starts screaming profanities at me and calling me a N**GER, odds are I'm going to feel threatened. Responding to it with violence would be among my last resorts, but simply ignoring it would it NOT be a wise response as far as I'm concerned. I'd be in no position to know what this random, raging, intoxicated stranger is capable of.

Oh, I definitely would've responded.

The fact that he was so brazen in carrying out his verbal tirade with no apparent fear of consequences probably would've made me consider that possibility that he was armed, tbh. Cops would've been called on his ass immediately. 

"Officer, there's an individual in here creating a disturbance. He is extremely hostile and appears to be under the influence. 
I'm not sure what he'll do next. He may be dangerous, so please proceed with caution."

I actually suspected you would   I was trying to let it be known in as few words as possible that there was not only the racist and those responding to the racist, but others subjected to his racism that did nothing  ... 

Some were more concerned about the the rights of the aggressive racist than the other totally innocent bystanders

How about if, instead of a drunk motherfucking stranger screaming in your face, you have a person you've interacted with a few times and have never considered that person to be a threat, who, while in full possession of his or her wits, in a completely normal tone of voice is calling you nig**r? Would you feel threatened? Would you consider that violence would be an acceptable reaction? Or just as last resort, too? A last resort to what? what did you mean by that? a last resort to make him stop saying that word? Or to keep him/her from physically assaulting you?

Something tells me that you'd feel threatened at anyone aggressively screaming at you, regardless of what they say, or their prior alcoholic intake. Does that particular word heighten your threat level in this situation? Why??
