Not most people I know...

Then they shouldn't get a cat in the first place.

What are they going to do if their cat gets sick with something that requires expensive treatment?

False dichotomy.

Meh, not really. Pet owners constantly find themselves facing a bill they can’t or won’t pay. Vets ain’t cheap, and they don’t work on charity.

I pride myself on how I treat animals.....and I spend silly amounts of money on them....but who here buys cheap ass Walmart flea treatments.....for example?

Pro tip... they don’t work. You’re a cheap asshole out 20 bucks and your cat still has fleas.

This.

If you’re not prepared to commit to an animal, don’t fucking get one.

It’s not rocket science.

No, pets are not children. They’re animal companions that are dependent on humans to look after them.

And if you’re just going to have a pet killed or get rid of it because it becomes an inconvenience you don’t deserve to fucking have it.

Get yourself a rock or a log.

My SO claims we have a cat.
I believe it's a tribble. All it does is eat, lay about, and make noises.
It has claws. It is not allowed past the kitchen. I put in a screen door to keep it away from the good furniture.
It also has no nuts. It lost them - plus one eye when my SO picked it up off the road after getting hit by a car. She spent waaaayy too much money at the vet on this lump of fur. She' s had it 10 years and they have lived with me for 6.
Should it get sick - requiring expensive treatment - it will fall to me to euthanize it.
I like the lump enough to do it for him, rather than dragging it to the vet to be " put to sleep"... (Put to sleep - a phrase invented by a politician... It must be. Only a professional liar could say it with a straight face)

You must have lots of friends.

No. I'm so lonely I just want to die. You start slinging shit and then cry when I play in the sandbox. Boohoo, buddy.

Once again nothing more than condescending nonsense and insults. You must be #foreveralone

Last year I spent nearly $4 K on cancer treatment for my cat.

It ultimately failed and he died.

Did I do it for me or him?

Both:

I din’t want to lose my buddy and I wsnted to give him a chance to continue his life.

I have no regrets.

I often wonder if those who callously told me “don’t waste your money, just have him put down” would respond poditively if I said the same thing about one of their family members?

“My son has cancer!”

“Just have him put to sleep. It will save money and his suffering.”

25 cents for a single round, 3999.75 dollars left over for my kids.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s cool that you had that and came out of pocket for fluffy.....but a person who refuses to do so isn’t exactly a moral lesser or shirking any responsibility on account of that.

Your cat isn’t your son. This is getting ridiculous. We aren’t talking about people, we’re talking about cats.

There isn’t exactly a shortage of cats. Your money, obviously... but if people were telling you that there were less loopy ways to spend 4K....they weren’t exactly wrong.

I don’t have kids and, frankly, I prefer most animals over most people.

And there’s not a shortage of humans, either.
