teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

You ever see a telephone wire with a pair of shoes tied together hanging from it? Apparently, those are there to memorialize the victims of gang violence.

Alan Turing was sentenced to prison for being "Gay".
Alan Turing, AKA "The father of computer" was homosexual, and he was sentenced to prison for being gay in Britain:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Turin..._indecency

Homosexuality was a crime in "Britain" and there was law banning it under ""gross indecency" under Section 11 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act 1885".

He then took his own life with Cyanide:

Quote:On 8 June 1954, Turing's housekeeper found him dead at the age of 41; he had died the previous day. Cyanide poisoning was established as the cause of death.

Wouldn't this be better under the 'what do you know today that you didn't know yesterday' thread or is there a point to this?

You make no commentary and ask no questions.

Edit: Command decision made to move this since Winter fled and didn't give a reason not to move it.

That's pretty cool! Now, if I only lived several hundred miles closer! Off topic, have you heard from Mark ("Whateverist"), lately? It's been months since I've seen him post.  Huh And yes, I know that he doesn't post here.

Yeah he posted on FB a day ago.

It's explained that Turing opted for hormone theory and probation Vs prison. Says so right in the link provided.

Be that as it may it didn't really need its own thread with a "Serious" tag.  There was no discussion by the OP.  Now it's here.
