I don't need a symbol to tell people I'm an atheist any more than I need one to tell them I'm heterosexual or that I eat meat. Because having a symbol makes it easier to make t-shirts for of course. I use the M over T symbol to show that I'm a meatatarian. Else certain people might assume they can serve me a meal without any meat in it.
Isn't marketing the cornerstone of capitalism?
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

What does the atom or the letter "A" have to do with atheism? Really? You don't know what the symbol for the atom has to do with atheism? The pursuit of science, evidence, all things physical and tangible ... any of this ringing a bell? You REALLY don't see what the Atom symbol has to do with atheism, but you think that the universal sign for NO should be the official sign???? Seriously? Quote: Those symbols can be given to any project for any reason. So now you're using the EXACT point I made??? Good one. You're right, the universal symbol for NO is far more specific to Atheism. *rolling eyes* I could fill page after page with this symbol. By the way, it's a fine working symbol if you put it over a Bible or a cross ... but clearly that is not my point. By itself it just means NO ... and that is not a good symbol to assign to any ideology regardless. RE: Hello, I'm AthiestAtheist!

Oh Dear...I thought it was just one of Terry Pratchett's Dwarfs Mine Signs..... How embarrassment http://wiki.lspace.org/wiki/Mine_sign The minesign for the Following Dark is a circle with two parallel diagonal lines slashed through it, making it resemble a No symbol. This is not a good sign, and can result in grags in a mine sitting surrounded by candles (as mentioned in Thud). It translates as "we await what follows with dread", or, more loosely, "Repent, ye sinners!". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwarfs_(Discworld) "The Universe is run by the complex interweaving of three elements: energy, matter, and enlightened self-interest." Welcome, AtheistAtheist. Enjoy your stay.
BTW, don't waste your time thinking about all those symbols for atheism. Just go with THIS symbol: Kidding. So you think a symbol related to the pursuit of science is more related to the symbol of atheism than a symbol for no (which it isn't)? Seriously? You have successfully shown to me that you don't really know what you're talking about, so I'm not going to continue this any further. |
