Yes and no.
Yes in that the connotation of Soviet oppressive or Cuba's Castro stigma is still attached to the word "Socialist" to the MAGA right. We need to ditch that bullshit cold war slur, and stop letting the right attach that to us.
No in that we do need stronger social safety nets like making sure social security and Medicare stay solvent and don't get raided for corporate tax breaks billionaires don't need. Ending for profit hospitals, and getting rid of that dodge of calling them "non-profit" when they are still run by for profit management. And cheaper higher education, free meals in every public school all the way through highschool. Lots of social safety nets like FDR's new deal that created a more stable society, one that Reagan started the decline of.
There is no ‘no’. The things you listed are social programmes, they just need to be presented in a manner that doesn’t trigger the buzz word ‘socialism’

Here's a little tip on fighting socialism: The more corrupt you let capitalism get, the better socialism looks in comparison. Right now, billionaires pretty much run Washington and the entire news cycle and they're screwing us over whenever employees ask to get paid what they're worth. If I wanted to inspire a communist revolution in America, that's pretty much what I would do.

Since the GQP of socialism is 'anything Democrats want', there's no way to win MAGAs over with promoting the general welfare, sound policies, and good governance. But a percentage of Independents is needed to win elections. Packaging good policies to sell better to the middle can work on them.

There's always the Republican trick of telling your opponent that what you reject is good so that they'll oppose it. Probably works for political candidates, too.

It's not like the Air Force holds bake sales to fund their F-35s. The military runs on a direct transfer of wealth from citizens. This isn't Galt's Gulch, you don't pay a toll every time you make a turn onto another road. You don't give your credit card information when you dial 9-1-1. Next time it snows everyone will expect the socialist snow plows to be out on the streets too.

The charge of "Socialism" is like the charge of "Woke" a meaningless buzzword that really means "I don't like it therefore it's bad"
"Change was inevitable"

This. Tremendously. One of the most frustrating things I see in Washington is that the republicans are really good at taking a really bac idea and packaging it to make it look good. Racism, eternal poverty, hate, violence..... watch Faux News and you'll be cheering for all those things. On the other hand, democrats have a reputation for getting a good idea but not knowing how to package it.
