What's everyone up to right now?
RE: What's everyone up to right now?
Just found out that a good friend that I lost contact with 6 or 7 years ago has been rotting in a box for four of those years.

Fuck!

Playing Cluedo with my mum while I was at Uni:

"You did WHAT?  With WHO?  WHERE???"

Sorry to hear that.  Seems time slips away and contact with some people is the casualty of that.

I have been pretty lax with my sewing lately. Today it's time to do a bunch of ironing so I can do more assembly.

Oh, and I have to sew the head back onto a monkey.

Relaxing with some peppermint cream liqueur over ice.  I'll be ordering a new 65" TV in the next day or two.  Just a few details left to nail down before ordering.  In the meantime, I've been buying myself unnecessary Christmas presents.  I've bought an electric meat slicer, a phone, and two air fryers in the past week.  I'll leave them in the box until Christmas in case things go pear-shaped and I need the money from returning them.

If you want the best, hold out for a QD-OLED.

Great brightness of a newer LCD panel, with contrast and deep blacks of an OLED.

It's on par with the picture from a good plasma set. (Which haven't been available for about ten years.)

I decided against OLED because given the content I watch, the TV wouldn't last as long before burn-in. I watch mostly sports and news, both of which have fixed screen elements.

I've been enjoying wasting time today. I spent an hour researching the differences between my Roku Ultra and the current Roku LT, given there's a great deal on one right now. But then I realized that Roku is built-in to the TV I ordered and so it's a moot point. And I spent three hours running to Northtown to exchange a portable hard disk that I bought for my sister, only to find once I got home that the one I really wanted to get her was only $10 more at Best Buy. It took about an hour of research to determine that the odd model number simply means that it was specifically manufactured for Best Buy.

I think the cold that I have is fucking with my head.

Most of the major manufacturers have implemented burn-in reduction measures:

Yes, that slows burn-in, it doesn't eliminate it. See rtings testing of various content in continuous operation. For football, burn-in emerged at what would be 3.5 years for me if similar results are had for baseball (likely); if so then that's what I can expect. I'm not spending an extra $500 for a TV that will last half as long.

Currently watching what may or may not be the last time Elton John performs “Rocket Man” on US soil.

Also something interesting, there was an unusual visitor to our neighbourhood. And allegedly, he’s been found in my backyard but I didn’t see him there, just next to the bike path by the train.
