1975 I sat next to a young Jesuit who was on his way from the US to Rome to be defrocked. "I can't handle the double standard." He said he wasn't gay but don't they all say that? /1970s judgy shit.
I wished him luck and advised he could come down to Sigonella for some American food if he had the urge.

That's shocking, women need to lift their game and start doing stuff worthy of being statueafied.

Statufication is a weird concept. But if people insist on them, the patriarchs could recognize the contributions statue-worthy women have already made. Radical notion, I realize.

Given the number of famous women associated with London, like Victoria, Elizabeth 1 and 2, Diana, Florence Nightingale, Virginia Woolf, Boudica, Thatcher, Woolsencraft, Winehouse, George Eliot, and probably a load more, it seems really odd.

I’ve always felt there are better ways to commemorate an individual’s contributions to society than statues.
As far as I know, there are no statues of Rosalind Franklin, but there are a ton of research facilities, scholarships, and science prizes named for her. Seems much more appropriate.

Ye but people statues are kinda old fashioned, and women weren't often allowed to do much.
Does Dorothy Hodgkin have one?

statues are a way to commemorate a person at a frequently visited public spot where visitors are generally not expected to be steeped in the reasons why the subject of the statues are worthy of filing away in a corner of their long term memory.

There's a bust of her in the Oxford Museum.
