Apparently, there’s good-sized number of DVDs printed by Warner Bros. Between 2006 and 2009 that were pressed poorly. As a result, they suffer from disc rot and are apparently unplayable.

Here’s a list of DVDs that appear to have been affected by the issue.

And here’s the ones from my DVD collection that appear to have been on the list:


So far, I’ve only checked a handful of the discs in question, but two (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf and East of Eden) seem to completely freeze up at about halfway through.

Always make a backup when the disc is new.

Too late for that now. Doing that with my collection now would be herculean. Fortunately, of the discs in that photo (an extremely small selection chosen because they were on the Google Doc), only seven of them have failed the "play them at extreme fast forward to see if they make it to the end" test.

I thought NZ was having a war on rats. Maybe I'm incorrect but wouldn't that imply at least a kind of hate?

Eradication of rats is necessary for the ecosystem. We don’t hate the rats, we just love the things the rats are eating.

Procyonids make poor pets unless you like incessant banditry and middle-of-the-night racket. Cute, though.

Husband said he and his workmate were entering the factory yesterday and as they walked near the big lunchroom they saw a woman in there freaking out but frozen in place. They went in and found an injured or ill raccoon laying on the floor. At first they thought it was dead but when they stepped a little closer it raised its head. They called animal control to come fetch it. All are puzzled as to how he found his way into the building.
