The SCOTUS Chronicles

RE: The SCOTUS Chronicles
Quote:A Fairfax County, Va., couple claims the worst in a series of ugly encounters with Martha-Ann Alito, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, happened after an upside-down flag was flown outside the justice’s house, not before, as the justice has said.

[...]

The Times reported that neighbor Emily Baden, and her then-boyfriend, who was not named by the news outlet, and Martha-Ann Alito engaged in vulgar insults over political differences. But Baden, who was living with her mother, Barbara Baden, provided a different timeline from Alito’s and said she did not see the upside-down flag.

The Times found that a phone call from Baden’s then-boyfriend to local police was made on Feb. 15, 2021, weeks after the flag was taken down, about the dispute.

[...]

After the 2020 presidential election was called for President Biden, Baden posted homemade signs outside their house that read “Bye Don” and “F— Trump.”

Following the Jan. 6 riots, Baden and her partner posted signs that said “Trump is a fascist” and “you are complicit.” Baden said the second sign wasn’t directed toward Alito, but Republicans in general who didn’t condemn the attack.

On Jan. 17, 2021, the flag was flown outside the Alito home, but Baden said she never saw it. On Biden’s inauguration day, Baden said Matha-Ann Alito ran toward their car and spit as they drove by.

In mid-February, the Alitos were on a walk when Martha-Ann Alito addressed Baden and her partner, and said they were fascists. Samuel Alito stayed quiet, but Baden said she snapped back at the couple.

She told the Times she remembers saying something along the lines of, “how dare you behave this way. You’ve been harassing us, over signs. You represent the highest court in the land. Shame on you.”

So Alito's a liar, too. Color me shocked.

I don't know what it's going to take for americans..not us here... we're a bunch of cynics, but americans in general...to realize that they cant do anything constitutionally.  Only the ruling party can do that.  Their votes do not count.  Only the ruling party's votes count.

I mean that I'm pretty sure you can burn down a fascist regime and still be noticeably different from a fascist. Whatever you do to that end will be or be made illegal - kind of baked into a fascist regime. Whether that difference is for better or worse is a judgement call, I suppose.

I'd say respect for the rule of law matters is a hallmark of a democrat.

I wouldn't know.  I do know that the clerics on the court intend to ride a wave of disaffected and disillusioned white supremacy with respect to that phrase all the way to the divine right of kings.

How do you respect the rule of law, when the law doesn't even fucking respect itself.

Do you think Clarence Thomas and Alito give a shit that we know they're corrupt pieces of shit? They don't. Because legally they're untouchable. Impeachment will never happen in a million years. That would require impeachment by the house, and a guilty verdict in the senate. Even assuming the house goes democrat, you need 2/3rds of the senate to convict, and you ain't getting that to happen in a billion years. Dems hold a slim majority in the senate. Even if they win EVERY senate election in 2024 the dems don't have enough votes to convict.

It's the same concept as Karen not having the introspective ability to perceive of her own idiosyncrasies. While we might be able to see her behavior as unnecessarily bitchy, she wholeheartedly believes that she isn't misbehaving at all. It's the nature of the unfortunate reality society had built for itself.

That's a bit false equivalence.

The issue with January 6th is that it's based on lies told without proof or evidence by a whiny corrupt narcissist. Imagine for a second that the election was stolen. What would you have us do? Go through the legal process and hope against hope that things are fixed? I mean it's possible I guess. But I can certainly understand why those who believed the lie would go and storm the capitol the way they did. January 6th was based on a lie. They were told these lies by the people in charge. I can only fault them in their lack of skepticism and the ease at which they bought the lies they were sold. Trump used those lies in an attempt to overthrow democracy. He doesn't really believe there was fraud. But his supporters absolutely do. Trump shoulders a lot of the blame for January 6th because not only does he know he's lying, he did so with a goal in mind to subvert democracy. But the J6ers thought they were upholding democracy, because they had been tricked. Now, they shouldn't have been so easily conned, but that's another issue entirely. They're way too willing to believe whatever their party tells them, and Trump is their party right now.
