The next Civil War

The next Civil War
A few years ago when I was regularly posting on this forum, I started a thread discussing the possibility of a new American civil war.  IIRC, there were some here who thought the idea ridiculous.  So, I'm curious, after all that's happened in the last few years and with the MAGA crowd still as mouth-foaming crazy, what do you say now about the chances of a civil war, or at least some type of violent revolt by the maga crowd if we are lucky enough for Trump to not make it into the white house again?  My sense right now is that it is near 100% certainty that there will be violent and deadly incidents, possibly enough to disrupt the federal government but surely enough to make life very dangerous for many of us.  I don't expect a lot of actual military personnel to be involved, but we have a portion of the populace that is armed like a militia and they are clearly insane enough to take action.

The pessimist I am, honestly I foresee a future more grim. One where the conservatives make of the country a dictatorship and the liberals are too weak to construct a proper revolution.

Nothing has changed. The people at the head of the MAGA movement absolutely, positively do NOT want a civil war.

Could local MAGA ‘militias’ (they aren’t that, not really) create some low-level violence, blow up a few buildings? Probably. But the sort of wide-spread anarchy you seem to be getting in a twist over? Nah. Why? Because these Beer Belly Brigade type armed with great-grandpappy’s squirrel gun are no match for an actual militia.

Who do you consider to be at the "head" of maga?  To me that's Trump and Trump wants any sort of anarchy that seems to glorify him.  No sitting elected GOP member currently would thwart him under any circumstances.  The few who opposed him are gone.

Those beer belly types are armed with a lot more than squirrel guns.  If Jan. 6 was any indication, a second wave of maga terrorism could be far worse.  The biggest failure of the Jan. 6 insurrection was its poor organization.  What I don't know much about is the state of the military leaders and service people.  There are some generals who have spoken out about the possibility of a military coup in Jan. 2025 and I wouldn't take that threat lightly.

Am I being paranoid?  Maybe.  But after everything I've seen in the last eight years, I'm not ruling anything out.  This country has gone to shit.

I'm going to start prepping right now by watching Red Dawn, both versions.

I can see dispersed violence with random bombing attacks, but I don't see the right-wing forming up and marching out in a Trump loss. The vast majority feel they've done their duty by slapping a "Let's Go, Brandon" sticker on their preferred compensation truck.

I'm pretty sure the US military will be much more on alert in 2025 than 2021. LE agencies as well will be more alert/

I think some domestic terrorism is likely. The scary thing is MAGA kooks are common within law enforcement. Acts of violence will be self-defeating in the end as they will drive the masses further and further from the ideology they dream of imposing.

It can only set the populace further against the police than they already are.

There are going to be various acts of violence, big and small, that are politically driven but I don't see a civil war anything like the one we had.

Of course not. When people use the term "civil war" most are using it loosely. Of course there won't be organized military units waging conventional war on each other but civil unrest over (perhaps senseless) acts of violence over ideological differences? I think we can expect some of that. If one fears going to the grocery store over fear of an attack because they are driving an electric car, couldn't that feel like we are at war? Hell, one could make the case that we are already there. People were harassed during COVID for wearing masks. Vehicles are set on fire because they bear bumper stickers at odds with the attackers beliefs. We really do have a serious ideological divide in this country right now. It's highly doubtful that it will rise to the point of major armed conflict but it could still get very ugly.
