I use the same username for everything I ever join, lol. I based it off lyrics from a ben folds song and '06 is the year i graduated from high school and I needed some numbers so I just picked that.

Ever since I arrived on the fundy debating scene I've understood the value of handles. They have several uses ...

• Protection: handles protect us inasmuch as they stop those we're debating from knowing our real identities, coming from a background of debating wingnuts I can tell you there are some seriously screwed up people out there. People here might think I'm bad but all I do is froth, boil, rant & rave ... I've had people threaten to come and find me, to beat up (quoting scarily near locations to where I live), I've had them threaten violence against my family so mostly the protection is not for me (I'm big enough and tough enough to look after myself) but to protect my family & friends.
  
• Character: Like clothes, like jewellery, like cars, like various other accessories handles are a reflection of your character ... when I started in on this debate thing I adopted the handle Stormtrooper alongside my friend Firewall but later changed to Fallen Angel to reflect my fall from Catholic grace. Later still I because UK Atheist (for obvious reasons) and later still the Undead Hedghog (combining my real world nickname of "Hedgehog" with my interest in all things vampire ... my hair is still spiky), that got shortened to Undead and finally, in parallel with an interest in Karate and Japan, I changed it to the Japanese word for The Undead, "Kyuuketsuki" and that is where I've stayed.

Nowadays I have adopted a more relaxed philosophy because I don't see this place as being inhabited by scary monsters so, whilst not wanting to lose my online handle, I put my name in my signature so there is a real person behind the handle.

I picked Arcanus because I felt that every element of its definition corresponded to my character in some way:

1. hidden, secret, private.
   
2. intimate, personal, confidential.
   
3. trustworthy (to keep a secret).

Well, "Mandi" is the name of a Barry Manilow song....but that is not the reason I used it...
I used it because...
because... it's my name...

On some forums I go by the name, Mandi151993", which is my name+age+year I was born. So yeah. All in all, pretty interesting [/sarcasm]

I've been using this username in many different places on the 'net. It comes from the fact that I play the bagpipes and am a bit of a loner. And the two words happen to go together!
