Here is partly why I don't believe. I have suffered throughout my life from different afflictions, and at one point it was so bad that I looked for some sort of higher meaning in life, or God if you will. I found nothing, yet low and behold through hard work and dedication I no longer suffer. I rejected the concept of God while simultaneously improving my entire life through my own means. So god either doesn't exist or doesn't care if you believe, but either way, he is rendered irrelevant.
Hi Faith No More, nice to meet you. I'm happy to hear you were able to overcome your afflictions. You mentioned that you sought out God..how did you seek Him?
When I was saved, I was able to clearly see that in my life, all throughout my life, God had always been there, helping me, protecting me, teaching me, and leading me, even though I didn't believe in Him. I just didn't see it at the time. Do you think it is possible that God was helping you overcome these things even though you don't see it at the moment?
When I sought God I went out at night with a bag and yelled "God, God, come here God!" I was ready to seize him and throw him in the bag but he never came. Come to find out, the other kids were just playing a trick on me and there really isn't any God. Or was that snipe? Same difference.

Hi there, new person. I don't believe in your god, because I have the good sense to not even want a being so evil to exist.
I became an atheist by reading the bible.

Reason enough for me to not speak to you. Take your bargain basement anger that you call praying for others and keep it to yourself. Read the last four words in the previous sentence as SIUYA (figure it out - it's an acronym).

You know that happy feeling you have since you found religion?
Well that's how I've felt since I stopped following a religion.

Is it too late for me to bid welcome? If not, then hello and I hope you find your stay a pleasant one. Please note that while I have little interest in piling on the new boy right now and even less in being saved, attempts at the latter will generate outstanding amounts of the former. I bite.

Strange, I've only came to peace when I turned atheist. Whatever floats your boat I guess.
Either way,

Hey Last Poet Thank you for the welcome. Couple of questions..What would you say kept you ill at ease when you were a (Christian?)? What do you find peaceful now in being an atheist?

Hi aleialoura How's it going? So, you used to be a Christian? Did you grow up in the faith? What makes you think God is evil?

Well Phil, I'm sorry to inform you but I pray for those I don't speak to as well. Why do you equate prayer with anger?

Hey Vaeolet Why do you think Eternal life would get boring? If it was just a bunch of finite beings sitting the camp fire for a trillion years, sure, I could see that..you could only roast so many marshmellows before you would want to scream bloody murder. However, we will also have an infinite being with us, namely the Creator of all existence, and therefore there will always be an infinite number of things to do, in an infinite number of ways; you can expect in eternal life that each day will be as exciting as the last, if not more so, and that, forever.

Not at all. Nice to meet you. I appreciate you cutting a newbie some slack, but if you insist on biting then I have a gift for you

brotherlylove,
I have been trying to respond to your post, but it seems that everytime I try to quote it, my computer crashes. So here is my response to your question about seeing a pattern in my life.
The only pattern was constant, willful self-destruction along with a refusal to take responsibility for my actions that were worsening my problem. I was my own worst enemy, and once I realized this to be true, I was able to change and bring stability to my life. No god needed. I just needed to take control of my life. This revelation came after hitting rock bottom for the third time in my life, and that would make god a sadistic animal if that's how he wanted to send me a message.
And no, I didn't do what the bile said as I dismissed it as mere superstition at a young age. Then again, I didn't do what the Koran said either.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

I do hope you're not suggesting pre-emptive stifling of opposition there b/l. Remember the friendly cautionary advice from my previous post: any biting you receive will have been invited. However I usually try to give everyone a fair chance to find their forum feet and earn their first blooding.
