Piles of Money

Piles of Money
Here in the US we have a large on-going lottery called Mega Millions that covers over 12 states. On rare occasions I buy a couple $1 lottery tickets. No I did not win.
However some people do and a rare few of them win upwards of 2 to 300 million dollars.

For the sake of argument, lets say that you were left with $100,000,000 (£63,500,000) after taxes free and clear. What are a first few things you would do with it?

Lets say at least 5

1. Pay off my remaining debts (duh).
2. Pay off my closest friends & families houses and cars.
3. Invest & set up my son's college fund & inheritance
4. Buy a nice truck.
5. Visit Tiberius, Ace & Darwinian and .... hmmm, fuck it ... I'd pay for a weekend retreat for all my favorite members on Atheist Forums (bout 20) ... all expenses paid.

I'm sure there are dozens of other things, but these are the things I would be most interested in doing first.

You?

Hmm...

1. I'd get wasted.
2. I'd do some travelling
3. I'd live the rest of my life vegetating and drinking myself to death.

1. Quit my job
2. Pay off all our debts
3. Move to California
4. Help a good friend of ours immigrate to the UK
5. Travel
6. Assist various charities whose work we agree with (and can't really support financially right now)
7. Buy or build our dream house
8. Pay for a huge weekend or week long gathering of all our scattered friends at some tropical paradise

My biological family is on it's own - they couldn't be bothered to help me all the times I needed it (apparently helping my employed sister pay her overdue cable bill was more important than helping me keep a roof over my head when I was unemployed).

I'd donate $125 a month here to run the server. Keeping it real.

RE: Piles of Money
1) Get rid of mine and my mother's debts - and pay her back for everything she's done for me over the past 2 years.
2) Down payment on a cottage - just a little one for me with a spare bedroom or two and a glass conservatory off-room.
3) Visit the UK and Ireland
4) Get a halfway decent car for once. Actually, I'd get myself a pretty decent car, and then I'd also get myself a Jeep I could fix up, and finally go four-wheeling in the southwest for two-three weeks.
5) Put the rest in savings until I had come up with a brilliant gardening business scheme and used that for starter costs.

I'm sure there would be other things along the way - and of course I would visit AF members. I've had too many money issues since getting out of High School for me not to hoard it and carefully dole it out. Plus I'm not an "expensive" person. I don't want a Lexus or luxury car - just a "new" one that will be dependable for more than 2 years. And I don't want a huge house, because I'd have to clean it, but I would want a little land around it just so I didn't have to see anyone.

1. Pay off all existing debts
2. Pay off some of our families' debts
3. Quit working
4. Donate a lot of money to the Freedom From Religion Foundation, American Atheists, and a few others
5. Donate a few thousand dollars to keep this server running in perpetuity
6. Travel
7. Put quite a bit away in a trust fund and college fund for our kids
8. Tell religious people to fuck off when they come begging for money
9. Not be afraid to tell people what I think about their religion
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

Here we have euromilions, but there you go:

1- Pay my debts.
2- Rebuild my house.
3- Help my family
4- Finish my Uni IT course (and pehaps take some extra credits)
5- Buy Tiberius a server for his excelent work
6- Pay for an atheist forum meetup
7- Donate some to secular charities
8- Create a business to make more money.
9- the rest I'd put on some saving account to harvest interest.

RE: Piles of Money
Honestly, I'd give most of it away.

0. Tell my boss to fuck off.
1. Keep enough to keep myself stocked with hookers and blow structure a modest income stream for myself, and some reserve cash.
2. Ensure my son's education is fully funded.
3. Pay off my family's debts and give each a lump sum or a very modest income-paying trust. Fortunately, I have a very small family.
4. Pay off my personal debt (basically, just my house).
5. With the rest, I'd set up a charitable foundation to give educational grants to the needy. Secular education grants, that is.
6. With all that done, I'd plan my retirement, somewhere away from the USA, where it's warm, on the ocean, where the pace of life is slow, people stop to watch the sunset, where I can live out the rest of my life at peace. Oh, somewhere I can reasonably pass myself off as a Canadian would be nice too. Angel
