The only education I mentioned in the OP was what brought me from strong atheism to weak atheism; and that was just general education about religion (esp Christianity and Islam as stated earlier), history and psychology.
Mary Immaculate, star of the morning
Chosen before the creation began
Chosen to bring for your bridal adorning
Woe to the serpent and rescue to man.

Sinners, we honor your sinless perfection;
Fallen and weak, for your pity we plead;
Grand us the shield of your sovereign protection,
Measure your aid by the depth of our need.

Bend from your throne at the voice of our crying,
Bend to this earth which your footsteps have trod;
Stretch out your arms to us, living and dying,
Mary Immaculate, Mother of God.

RE: Hello
So even though the Bible is completely historically inaccurate, history and education about religion brought you to Catholicism. Right you are.

Thank you for the welcome. You aren't mistaken at all, who is this? I don't know what I'll do without a Guinness smiley!

I haven't posted on AF.com in forever. I'm I_Blaspheme over there (as I was here, until the name change).

So, uhhhh.... what got you banned?

I think it was her proselytization combined with her condescending attitude and her recent (on af.com) tendency to trolling.

"Mod consensus". I never broke any rules and I try very hard not to let misogynistic or hateful type comments get to me at all, but I guess more and more I was coming off as having an "attitude" (and I guess that is true, certain posters had started to wear on me a bit emotionally); and I ended up deeply offending someone there indirectly when I did not mean to which caused a bit of drama.

I was warned once for proselytizing very early on; I never trolled.

Well...yes. I certainly didn't join Catholicism because the Bible was so "historically accurate" if that is what you are trying to get at. Tongue

"History" connotes the entire history of Christianity (or Islam as the case may be) in general.

Though learning history and other works of ancient literature (such as the Epic of Gilgamesh for example) does help put the Bible in context I think.

I very glad to see a representative of RC on-board. As you have already learned, you will find some members amazed that intelligent educated people of sound mind can believe in God. Welcome from one of the resident heretics.

Thank you for the welcome Chad!

I find it pretty interesting to meet a Non-trinitarian Christian myself.

I've come here to chat about religion and such. I am 23 years old, a rather devout Catholic, currently in a PhD program for molecular biology, though I am discerning religious life and becoming an apostolic sister. Heart I was a strong atheist for a long while, and converted to Catholicism relatively recently, though Islam and Orthodox Christianity also came close.

I also quite like history, nature, geography and cooking.

Looking forward to talking with you all.

It is impossible for a strong atheist to become a theist.

Welcome.

You're damn right there.
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.

Sounds to me like you're religious just because you like the idea of it. But hey, who am I to judge. I ain't god am I.

Welcome nonetheless.
