Originally I was a theist when I joined the first forum (AF.com). I thought I had the answer to 'the meaning of life' hence why I joined but all that changed within 3 months. Long story short, got banned for supposedly being an undercover theist after announcing my deconversion.
My first week as a non-believer felt like being underwater because I had to bottle up my lack of belief in God. Having 80% Christian friends and the remainder 20% atheists but mutual friends of your Christian ones meant I couldn't tell anyone in real life, or let alone discuss, my new world view. So naturally I started looking for a new forum otherwise I would have lost my sanity from not being able to express my new self.

I'm a friend of your esteemed admin, and am running out of things to do instead of my dissertation. In all seriousness, I was big into debating religion back in my teenage years over at ChristianForums.com, and while I had a fair few enlightening discussions, I still left that forum vowing never to debate religion on the Internet EVER AGAIN. Ironically it was mostly the Christians that were ticking me off, if anyone here has ever posted over there you might know what I mean. I'm five years wiser now and less likely to get provoked into flame wars, and I've had many a good discussion with Tiberius on such topics, raging from the anthropological necessity of religion to why Catholic priests have so many issues with teenage boys, so I thought I'd check this place out...

A year ago, when I finally started to feel comfortable with the lable 'atheist', I began reading conversion stories on Dawkins website. It's called Converts' Corner, the same as here, so every time I searched for the page on Google, I saw AF's Corner. I got interested, clicked on the link and without reading a single thread on this forum, I decided to join it. I think it was a really smart move on my part
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Google.
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.

I received a visitation from some angels one night, and one said "Get thee to atheistforums.org." And I was like "...but if you exist, why are you sending me to an atheist forum?" Then one of the angels knocked me out in the head with a purse.
I still haven't figured that night out. Though some of the angels looked suspiciously like a few of the members here.

Originally, google. I hung around about a month but left originally because I thought the general vibe was pretty anti-intellectual .. young fast draw atheists looking to bloody theists.
From there I went to Agnostic Forums, a UK site, but the admin was pretty deist and I sometimes felt like I had to tone down my unquestioned atheism.
Next stop, Agnostics International. Very small population but thoughtful debate. I'm still a mod there but I like to post-around.
At some point I sent an email to this site talking about my old criticisms of this place. Summer Queen responded and that drew me back. Until I got banned last month I'd been here for maybe a year. After exchanging non-apologies with Tiberius my sentence was recently lifted so now you all get to enjoy my wit and insight once more. (Amazingly there is still no charge for what I offer!)
In the meantime I've started posting at intelligentatheist. That can be good at times but, as with this place, some threads become tedious to new comers since the old-timers seem to settle into ongoing exchanges with each other in ways that have nothing to do with the topic. One soon begins to feel like a visitor to someone else's high school reunion .. bored to death.
There you go. More than you asked for .. but absolutely free!
