Did Mohammad exist?
July 28, 2012 at 4:41 pm
after reading cratehorus's thread, I thought that this subject needs its own thread also.
I haven't read ANYTHING historical that wasn't written by Muslims or pro-Islam books, its actually very difficult to find books about Mohammad that weren't written by Muslims because half the region blocks most anti-Islam books AND websites.
Mohammad the person may very well have existed, if he did, he probably was a schizophrenic poet that fooled half his followers & forced the other half to follow him.
if he was a myth, he was probably created by power hungry Christians that lost their power to the Jews who were powerful in Arabia at the time.
of course I'm just assuming out of my ass since I don't have accurate info.

I'm more inclined to believe that he existed than that Jebus fellow because of the historical accounts of his conquests.

thanks for the video, how the hell did I never hear about this?
what I find really disturbing is when later in the video he said that Muslims in America WANT Sharia law when there's only Saudi Arabia in the ME that practices it, & most Muslims (almost everyone I know is) I know are glad we don't have such laws, for a progressive society (America) to still have those people, it is disturbing, I think the only law we have in Bahrain that resembles Sharia law is inheritance & divorce, & women rights activists have been fighting the latter for the better part of the last decade.
there is a popular saying around here that says converts are "more Muslim" than born Muslims, since almost every single Muslim I know practices just what he finds convenient, what fueled such a saying is probably seeing converts on TV, their women wear a complete Hijab while women here ignore it.
but I digress, I would really love to read his book, I don't think I'd be able to buy it here, is it being sold online as an e-book?

As they should, so-called 'Muslim' modesty customs (especially the Burqa ) are not Quranic, predating Islam by many centuries.
I've noticed the same thing about converts. I think adult religious converts have 'issues'.
I lived in W coast Malaysia,(1969-70) near Malacca. I saw Muslim friends drinking alcohol at private parties .Rarely saw so much as a head scarfe except for schoolgirls. (part of their uniform)
Malaysia has religious police to enforce aspects of Sharia law. EG Ensuring people are fasting during Ramadan, arresting anyone publicly preaching another religion,Muslim apostates are arrested and sent to prison for 2 years, all food served in hotels must be halal. I found out by observing that my bacon tasted odd;it was made of turkey.

Actually, we're not very progressive, and there are plenty Christians that would have no problem instating biblical law that would trump the secular ones.

My observation is that the US is one of the more politically and socially conservative nations in the developed world. I concede it is more progressive than say Saudi Arabia, and probably Bahrain.

I think this map is very inaccurate, Libya, Yemen, Oman, & Syria do not practice Sharia law at all, I think bumping each country one level would be accurate except for Saudi Arabia (& maybe Iran, I don't know about their laws).

a few years ago I heard that someone was put in jail for eating in public in Ramadhan (he's only allowed to eat in private), I think the law back then was that if you get caught, you'll be sent to jail & will be released at the end of Ramadhan, where you'll be shaven bald (what's with the Muslim's obsession with baldness?). I still eat & smoke in my car, I was never caught, food is actually more delicious when everyone is fasting.

it is still more progressive than the ME, I would love to live in a place where there is free speech & equal opportunity.

Fine, then migrate to Australia or perhaps Canada . Since 9/11 a great many Americans have found people 'of Middle Eastern appearance' as welcome as a pig in a mosque.
