I interpreted the song as representing the moment that a person came to complete Enlightenment. I saw the chains as the shackles of life that after achieving enlightenment, that character could now see and help people, almost like Buddha.

The female singer is awesome. But the metal part of it sounds terrible. That guitarist's voice is absolutely horrible.
