Seriously though, isnt my theory more optimistic than some of the darker alternatives?

No, I'd rather be dead.
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.

That is just an assumption.

Your argument is that Padraic, an atheist, possibly had an epiphany and left atheism since he is not posting in this forum anymore.

But now:

If a Christian left a Christian forum, would you also argue that he abandoned Christianity?

Why are you a kudos whore, by the way? It's the oddest thing.

Especially considering his count. 41? Fuck, I've gotten that many on a good day.

I know just how you feel; it's an awesome burden. A quick look at the "Top Members" leaderboard shows my humble self in pole position for today as well as the last seven days, and second only to Min the Mighty for the past thirty. I haven't a frog in a blender's chance of cracking the "All Time" list, not unless I systematically hunt down and murder everyone on it, but I have a sneaking suspicion that may, just possibly, be a bannable offense even though the forum rules don't say anything about it.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

A possibility.

Yes, and its not an implausible theory. (Not an argument BTW)
If Padraic came back here and said yes, I have reverted to open agnosticism or converted to some theistic position, would he be greeted in a warm friendly manner by everyone especially the theists?

Its an interesting question.

Padraic/Bunyip didnt just leave ''a'' forum. He apparently has left a few. And under this particular working theory, he would have done so voluntarily and not without an intelligent reason. As some have noted, he is a smart guy.

And unlike Christianity which has invocations about persisting with defence of the faith, atheism has no equivalent canon. An atheist counter-apologist can just walk away if it gets boring or they feel themselves ''losing their religion''. They arent a baptized part of some universal apostolic church. So I think the attitudes would be somewhat different.

If I stopped going to church people would come to see what was going on and in order to make them go away, I would have to tell them that I wasnt interested in God any more.

I really can't recall ever seeing someone - a Christian equivalent to Padraic - leave a Christian forum suddenly, unexpectedly and without explanation. In my experience, most Christians on a close knit internet forum, equivalent to this one, who live close enough to each other will have met IRL and even if they couldnt meet in real life, they certainly would have at least talked to each other about what church each attends, what the liturgy/service is like
...and maybe a bit of inter-denominational rivalry. Devil

IOW if Padriac was a Christian apologist and he and I both lived in the same city, we would have, by now, gotten to know each other by way of shared Christian links. (Fellowshipping) We would have likely sent occasional PM's to each other. And a quick visit or phone call by me to Padraics church would resolve his sudden mysterious absence. (Yeah, we havent seen him for a few weeks now - but we know where he lives, we know his relatives who are also part of the Church, etc. etc. etc.)

Anyway, as I said, it's just a theory and I am an optimist.

The theory isnt about YOU. (or the person who flipped a Kudos your way for that bizarre empathy)

Someone's keeping track of kudos? That's the "like button" right?

Here kitty, kitty, kitty, (lion). Got you some kudos kibble. All you have to do is say it with me .. "the bible is a cryptic old book of wisdom stories that means different things to different people". Come on, you know you want it.

Enough with the flipping kudos. I believe I'm like somewhere in the top 5 for all time kudos and I can tell you, it matters not one single fucking bit. You don't get a prize, and it really says nothing about you other than, "I posted on this forum a lot." Why not focus on the quality of your posts other than how many kudos people give them?

Also, most people here do chat privately, send PMs and many of us have met IRL (my profile picture is of me and another member). So, try a new way to make yourself feel superior, dinglebert. This is why people are worried.

Well maybe not to you....and the other top 5 people with bragging rights.
