Is 'faith' really a 'great cop-out'?
RE: Is 'faith' really a 'great cop-out'?
Leo, thanks for the links, just watched them. They've helped me understand things a bit better.

Pascals wager once again is nothing more than another theist ploy to convince you that you need God or Jesus in your life.Considering that he says basically that if you believe in God you have much to gain but if you dont you have much to lose and the consequences are dire in the afterlife.

Actually, looking at it from a theists stand point you are not really guaranteed a place in heaven whether you serve God or not.He expects humility and self sacrifice not only of your wants and needs but your own desires in this present life. That is alot to lose considering that from an atheists view you only have one life to live.I will continue to be an atheist and enjoy my life before I sacrifice it for something that in all honesty in my view does not even exist.
There is nothing people will not maintain when they are slaves to superstition

I've been looking at the belief of universal reconciliation, (God will reconcile all creation, without exception to Him through Jesus Christ). How amazing if it turns out no one will be 'lost'. Oh well, we will see. In the mean time enjoy your life and do the best you can.

Hmmm.....So what's the point belieing anything if no one will get lost anyway?

Sounds more like someone trying to reconcile their "loving god" with the fact that pretty much everyone fails in some way and will be damned forever.

I thought that at first, but upon studying this it does seem to make much better sense (God is meant to be love) than the usual teachings of damnation by the Churches. I'm still looking into it so haven't made my mind up yet.

Yahweh of the old testament, if taken literally, is of course, very very evil indeed.
