We like to talk about how anyone who works hard enough can make it with capitalism, but the reality is there has never been that much social mobility. If you're born on the top, you're likely to stay on top. If yo're born into povety, you're likely to stay in poverty. So the wealthy land owners just turn into wealthy corporations and the basic system stays the same.
Social mobility aside I was more just talking about the historical accuracy of the statement. The military coup in Russia wasn't against capitalists and certainly not because the people there were being crushed under the weight of capitalism. You have capitalist countries in the same time frame, ironically none of them have successful communist revolts, with the possible exception of Cuba, which was more or less what people today call capitalist. Most of the major overthrows were against imperial regimes. China is of course another good example of this.
I don't have a problem with critiques of Capitalism, I'm just a stickler for historical accuracy. Like you I support a mixture of centralize control, social programs and the free market. I suspect the degree is fairly different though.

I think it's fair to say that none of the communist regimes were ever communist in a Marxist sense. Cuba is maybe the closest, with strict wage controls and a highly centralized economy. Of course they have exceptions too, more in the last ten years.
I don't say this as someone who think that communism is a good idea that just hasn't been implemented right. I think communism is an unimplementable idea. We've seen it try and fail totally often enough to know that by now, at the expense of millions of lives.

Did I say they were havens of freedom? No. Stop building a strawman. And FYI, Soviet Atheists sent religious people to death camps, something that no Muslim country has ever done. Do you see Atheists being rounded up in the Muslim world like the communists of the past? I don't think so.
NO!
The soviet gulags were certainly not death camps!!!!
The soviet gulags were slave labor camps! They were mainly built by Stalin, Lenin, Mao and Kim the fat korean fuck, because they didnt have any other economic methods of industrialising their country.
The machine behind the soviet Gulags was mainly economics and not the idea of eradicating the religious.
The Death camps are camps with the sole intention of murdering it`s prisenors on a industrial scale, economics only play a secondary role in the death camps.
And these death camps were mainly built by the fashist regimes of Europe in the 1930s and 1940s. And every fashist european regime originated out of a radical right wing catholicism.
True!!! Religious people were brutaly persecuted, discriminated and even murdered in the soviet block! But there were no death camps for these people neighter were institutions set into existance to exterminate these.
And by the way "conservative orthodox islam", I find it funny that you should call out and complain about death camps considering that most of you would love to do nothing as else as much as to repeat what happened to the jews between 1930s and 1940s in Europe.

Yeah I agree. The country Germany really was a piece of work before. Soviets killed a huge number as well. I'm glad both the Soviets and the Germans disintegrated before rebuilding.
